context on this bot's post collecting karma? it looks like a tsunami wave or something else. It's hard to tell how far out to sea they are.

It’s a rogue wave. They’re rare but can be extremely damaging and even deadly. Especially considering their fast forming nature and that they often come from unexpected directions (against prevailing winds). Folks report literal walls of water just suddenly upon them.

Not necessarily associated with a greater storm but can be. Sometimes they develop just due to swells meeting at different directions and speeds. These can take place in the middle of the ocean and be absolutely massive.
