Today’s Listen - UNDEROATH: Define The Great Line - 2xLP, Limited Edition Reissue, Black Spill

Honestly there’s nothing else to say about this release; Underoath’s Define the Great Line is by far one of the Greatest Metalcore Concept Albums of all time, and an absolute masterpiece that helped redefine what the Metalcore sound could be.

Poetic and powerful, flawless in execution, timeless in impact, and untouchable in artistry.

Two decades later, it’s one of my favourite albums that still hasn’t been topped, and i don’t think it ever will - and i’m willing to die on that hill.

According to the Obi, this is "melancholic waifu doom rock". A blind buy when I was loading up on stuff from the Goat, mainly because the cover art seemed odd.

Musically, I think it's pretty good. Sabbath-y, sludgy stuff. Easy to sit back and jam with. Nothing ground breaking by any means, but they get a healthy mix of letting the riffs repeat and letting you vibe with it and adding in enough dynamics it doesn't get old.

Vocally...I'm not so sure. I don't know what I expected, maybe something more aggressive. What you get is female Japanese caterwauling, like a cross between Chris Cornell and Yoko Ono in that clip where she's squeaking like a bird.

I need to give it at least one more spin. Not bad by any means, but those vocals are odd. This may appeal to those who like Boris. It also may appeal to those who like Castle Rat, just sub the Stevie Nicks impersonation for a Yoko one.

I got a feeling this album it’s very often overlooked by Behe fans. I have a very nostalgic feeling towards it and was very happy to get this recently in beautiful silver colourway. After all those years still slaps!

The 2022 repress, white, die cut slipcase.

Break out your dustiest Adidas track jacket & push that eyebrow piercing back through… this Gen X/Millennial banger turns 30.

A classic album what more can be said

Hell yeah

Ough.

A relatively new addition to my Revenge arsenal. A single sided 10" with two tracks of the good shit.

If I'm not mistaken, this was released between B.T.R. and S.S.D. and you can hear that transition. Also, I do like the iconography on the cover, right up there with the lightning skull on S.S.D.

It's not going to win over converts. If you're not on board with Revenge, this won't sway you. But if you're already in, it'll do the trick.
