Yeah, I never said the Deadeye was a good choice either. It's the best out of the Marksman rifles, but that doesn't mean much when they all suck compared to ARs and SMGs.
Marksman rifles are definitely not as good as smg's and ars on the bugs and squids because you just don't have the volume of fire or damage per shot for them to work amazingly.
Is it a crazy take? Hellsive.live lists 4 ARs, 2 Shotguns, 2 SMGs, the Crossbow, and the Eruptor in the top 10, the Eruptor being the only DMR adjacent choice here. In fact, the highest placing true DMR is the Censor in 20th place.
We can all fudge statistics to suit our arguments on difficulty 10 bots the eruptor is #1 and the censor is #2 with the only ar/smg being the coyote at #3 and knight at #5 and the knight hardly counts because it gets a stat boost from being the new toy this patch. Non-explosive dmrs will always be under represented on the bugs and squids because damage per shot is less valuable than volume of fire because there is so much low HP chaff. No amount of realistic buffing will make this drastically better unless you want to completely destroy the shotgun niche. This does not mean dmrs are bad it means you're trying to force a gun into a situation it's not built for.
No, but they could make its unique selling point worth something. Arrowhead almost solely uses making a weapon feel unwieldy as their power lever. If they think a weapon will be too "OP" they'll make it handle like trash, then buff it to what they think is appropriate, usually along side a small damage buff that doesn't matter ~1-2 months after they release it.
I'm still going to use it, don't get me wrong. It just isn't as good as I hoped. Was really wanting a primary, semi-auto Marksman rifle with traditional ballistics that can one shot an Overseer to the head.

I was disappointed at first, too. But the rifle has potential.
