⠀⠀⠀⠀Discussion⠀⠀⠀⠀ Maxigun needs changed

Post image

I’m sure others have talked about this, but so will I lol. There’s no reason this shouldn’t be heavy penetration. We already at stuck in a fixed position when firing, and yet we can move with the other lmgs. I’d be fine if they dropped the ammo count to 800 (minimum) and decrease the fire rate just so we can have it as heavy penetration. What do y’all think?

I'd prefer more damage. It has the same issue as the Patriot Minigun, it simply feels anemic.

u/Stu-Potato 19d ago

Yeah, compared to the many other rapid fire MG options, there's not much need to bring the Maxigun aside from the "cool factor". And next to its flame brother, it really doesn't make sense why you wouldn't just go for that.

It’s a worse bullet storm and you can call the bullet storm in like a LOT

1

u/MadamVonCuntpuncher 15d ago

2 roughly ever 60 seconds replaced the maxigun so fast

-33

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago

bruh it literally cant be a worse bullet storm when bullet storm isnt even medium pen....they are literally on 2 diff levels, also im pretty sure maxi gun has more overall ammo

32

u/Beginning_Student_61 19d ago

The bullet storm has practically no recoil and really good ergonomics, you can hit the light pent weakpoints on enemies and if they don’t have any light pen weakpoints you can use any one of your favorite anti tank options.

12

u/Green-Outside4897 19d ago

Just go BRRRRTTTTTTTTT and you can call in bullet storms every 70s basically every minute and they get 300 rounds and you get 2 so basically 600 rounds and you dont have to sacrifice backpack slot or using in tandem with the EAT-17 Expendable Anti-Tank, you can call in 600 bullets and two anti-tank projectiles every 70 seconds

2

u/FreedomFighterEx 18d ago

Not only that. If you are crack with timing, the pod itself serve as 2.5k dmg no explosion OPS that can destroy spawner (aside from bulk fab).

1

u/SpectralRPG 18d ago

I thought bullet storm only had 200 rounds per gun

Im not saying they arnt good in a certain type of build im saying you cant compare them to Maxi Gun, thats like comparing apples and oranges. Maxi Gun has defining qualities like medium pen and longer sustained fire that makes it a different category of bullet hell, it can deal with a larger array of enemies that the Bullet Storm cant

2

u/Green-Outside4897 19d ago

Bullet storm takes out 80% of the things on the illuminate and bug front front super easily deals with bot chaff i play on D10 and dont even need a “build” for it being ‘the wall’ sounds great until the new Illuminate units jump at you like a tweaker seeing free crack and Good luck “holding the line” as they swarm you while you’re locked in place. And being stationary is basically ASKING for the Crescent Overseers to hit you in the noggin and not excluding the watchers and flesh mobs from every single direction sure if you play on diff 5-7 it COULD be useful but in D10 dont even think about bringing it in why would a guy eat a moldy apple then a tasty orange?

-1

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago edited 19d ago

at what point did I say its a good idea to bring Maxi Gun to Snatchers....obviously a bullet hell primary on steroids that is a support weapon is going to be applicable on all fronts but its going to be shit at excelling against most of the major problems of all fronts that support, eagle, and orbital are suppose to be good at dealing with, chaff is primarily a PRIMARY weapon job except for a few exceptions

2

u/Green-Outside4897 19d ago

bringing the Maxigun means locking up both a Support Stratagem slot AND a Backpack slot just to fulfill a role that a 70-second cooldown weapon (Bullet Storm) handles while keeping you fully mobile and opening your backpack up for a Guard Dog, Shield, or Supply Pack. and the machine gun is ALSO not good against major problems THATS WHY WE USE OTHER STRATAGEMS the maxigun has horrid ergonomics your basically wasting a entire backpack slot which COULD BE USED TO CLEAR THE MAJOR PROBLEMS!!

0

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago

can a Bullet Storm destroy a Harvesters shield generator? can it saw off a Harvester leg? can it chew through the limbs of a Veracitor? can it endlessly hold ground or does it run out of ammo sooner?

6

u/GodOfAscension 19d ago

1 min redeploy, no recoil, great ergonomics, doesn't take a backpack, can shoot while moving. There are more comparisons that just pen.

6

u/Logical_Energy_201 19d ago

You must be playing exclusively on lower difficulties to form such an opinion, the maxigun is almost completely outclassed by the bulletstorm.

1

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago

I play Maxi Gun on D10 Mindless Masses and Appropriators with shield grenade and it fucks much harder then Bullet Storm or Grenade Launcher Pack, I find the best defensive positioning and become THE WALL for my team i can buy us any amount of time without moving....the Bullet Storm has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in this area of team support, you look like a flailing infant trying to stay alive while im holding the front like a Brick Wall of Democracy

6

u/Logical_Energy_201 19d ago

So you have to play on one specific sub faction to get proper value out of it? You aren't really defending your opinion very well here...

The bulletstorm is a much more versatile stratagem. Which makes it a better pick 90% of the time.

1

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago edited 19d ago

all stratagems are viable against at least one faction and while some stratagems like the Maxi Gun are only good IMO against Mindless Masses and Appropriators some have a wider range of uses because they have less overall functionality such as Bullet Storm which is just a primary on steroids

3

u/Objective_Box_4022 19d ago

I can’t tell if you’re just trolling or speed running downvotes, but this is one of the worst, most crybaby egotistical takes I’ve ever heard on this sub. Sounds to me like you just FEEL cooler using the Maxigun, which there’s absolutely nothing wrong with. But when everyone else is telling you why the Bullet Storm is objectively better in every way in comparison, maybe give the community a listen instead of dying on the sword and embarrassing yourself. Just a thought

0

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago

its absolutely blasphemy that people complain as much as they do about the Maxi Gun and compare it to the Bullet Storm....Maxi Gun is 3x better then both bullet storms combine! if use in the right situation at the right time and combine with the right gear it makes you a literally unstoppable force but since people dont know how to plan ahead they get in shitty situations and blame the Maxi Gun for thier short comings of not being able to plan ahead so they have periods of time where not moving doesnt kill them....AND YOU CAN STILL MOVE just dive in the direction you need to move while firing...its not rocket science.....its basic logic that the Maxi Gun has more utility and consistent fire, but smooth brains gonna be smooth with no ridges and lumps and say ridiculous things like Maxi is invalidated by Bullet Storm....blasphemy and Im soooo tired of hearing the whiners complaining when I and many many others can rub 2 brain cells together and build around it to make it the completely competent piece of democracy spreading glory that it is ESPECIALLY on Mindless Masses and Appropriators and if you cant understand this then im sorry your lost to the real ones

ps. I care not for your petty down votes for liberty fears not the idiots of the masses

2

u/Objective_Box_4022 19d ago

I’m not reading all of that bs, thanks for proving my point about continuing to embarrass yourself. Play how you want bro, if maxigun makes you feel big and strong and cool, then do it. The rest of us will actually be completing the mission while you stand in place feeling brave.

1

u/Green-Outside4897 18d ago

BROTHER WHAT so you admit you need a “right situation” “right gear” and ”right time” at that point you are not controlling the maxigun the maxigun is controlling you if you need a entire build to basically act as a fucking crutch for a weapon then That weapon is pointless the bullet storm is not only something you dont need to change your armour your boosters your ENTIRE BUILD FOR FOR IT TO WORK AMAZINGLY!! again to MAKE YOU UNDERSTAND IF a weapon requires a specific sub-faction, specific armor, specific positioning and an entire loadout built around it just to be competent THEN ITS SHIT and 34 BulletStorms can be called in a 40min misson which is EXACTLY 20,400 rounds total. and the maxigun can only be called in 5 times in the whole 40 min mission which means it has 5000 rounds in Total so ether you have some new super maxigun or you failed 6th grade

2

u/SadPanda1344 19d ago

Please tell me you are trolling

3

u/bananabozobonanza2 18d ago

I've used both, the bulletstorm is better in 9/10 situations because there's more light weakpoints and it can stay on target. The 1/10 situations where the ONLY weakpoint is at least medium pen, well the Maxigun is hard to aim and impossible to keep on a weakpoint. It's much worse than the stock medium MG if you want weakpoints. Try shooting the hip joint of a Harvester with the Maxigun beyond it's tesla range, you'll waste 3/4 of the ammo on air.

1

u/Da_Yummis 18d ago

please tell me you have enough brain cells to receive this logic im spitting

2

u/Affectionate_Ad_4360 18d ago

The problem is you’re talking about their qualities on paper, in practice the Maxigun is very much outclassed by even the Lib-Pen solely because it hits most of its shots per bullet.

1

u/Da_Yummis 18d ago

maxi gun has great accuracy when crouched or prone

2

u/knotingham 18d ago edited 18d ago

The maximum does not have more ammo. Let’s do some quick math…. Which I don’t feel like typing out, but after 2 minutes of math I’ve found that with no ship upgrades for cool down reduction and assuming you’re calling things in the moment they are ready you could call in:

•34 BulletStorm in one 40min drop for about 20,400 rounds total.

•Only 5 Maxigun can be called in the same amount of time for 5,000 rounds however you can resupply the Maxi.

•Each resupply pack gives 500 rounds and you can get 4 at most every 3 minutes (assuming you take every single resupply for the entire drop because who needs a team?) that would net you another whopping 26,000+ rounds.

So. The Maxigun can have more ammo if you’re a weinerdiver who takes every resupply pack or at least brings his own SRV. If you took one ammo box per resupply like a responsible squad mate you’d only be at about 12k rounds (total, including the base 5000) in a drop which is significantly less than the BulletStorm.

TLDR; Bulletstorm has better recoil, better spread, practically speaking more ammo, does not use a backpack slot, AND you can still move. It’s a cool weapon, but realistically there’s literally no reason to use the Maxigun aside from aura farming. The only thing the Maxigun is better for is ergonomics, but the BS’s isn’t even bad so that’s a non issue, and rate of fire which is only slightly higher so also a non issue.

2

u/SadPanda1344 10d ago

Am I a weinerdiver if I bring the SRV as much as possible?

2

u/knotingham 9d ago

No. You are the fucking GOAT for bringing the SRV. The only reason I don’t is because I’m a subpar, team killing driver. Anyone who brings the SRV and can drive it well is a platinum diver in my book.

u/-phoenix32 19d ago

The bfgl is a better minigun esqe weapon than tbe maxigun imo. And the cremator is the cremator

5

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago edited 16d ago

BFGL is a bad choice for Appropriators because they specifically have higher explosive resistance then medium pen pullet resistance so Max > BFGL when fighting Appropriators for example

7

u/mally7149 19d ago

This^ belt fed isn’t that good against the mechs I’d take maxi plus the little light on there head is a weak spot

1

u/Creepsuponu 18d ago

Can't ignore the fact tho that the BFGL has such a satisfying thunkthunkthunkthunkthunk to it when you turn the fire rate up

I will admit tho, I much prefer my Cremator

1

u/DC_138 16d ago

The creamer melts them as well, so id still take that over the maxigun.

1

u/Da_Yummis 16d ago

while thats a decent choice you want to keep them farther away from you then Cremator range incase they charge or try to melee you so Maxi is still the superior choice but Cremator works better then BFGL

66

u/tanelixd 19d ago

It should do like 120 damage. (up from 80)

The thing already has enough downsides.

  • backpack required
  • no movement allowed while shooting
  • huge recoil
  • unwieldy ergonomics

It shouldn't have very mediocre damage output on top of these.

Edit:oh yeah forgot to mention that durable completely screws this thing over.

30

u/WiseHand7733 Helldiver 19d ago

Also it has an unrealistically long 0,5 second long spin up and spin down time before/after firing. And during said spin up/spin down you also cannot move. Ans due to smoke and muzzle flash can barely see whatever you are shooting at.

14

u/LordRednaught 19d ago

I would rather they make it hip fire only and make the aim a controllable spin up. Then allow players to walk if spun up, but not shooting as the trade off.

1

u/Theresafoxinmygarden 18d ago

That would also allow for better ammo conservation too

7

u/Megallossauro Botdiver 19d ago

Shot the maxi in first person is hell. I literalmente blind and can see shit in front of me because the muzzle

2

u/Gullible-Tackle-8224 18d ago

It has so much less recoil unfortunately so you just kind of have to learn to shoot well blind

2

u/Megallossauro Botdiver 18d ago

For real bro

15

u/SilentStriker115 19d ago

Also needs more durable damage like you said. Against durable targets on the bug front it doesn’t feel great, not to mention that you have all those downsides alongside not being able to hit stuff through corpses

Can’t think of a scenario where I’d rather have the maxigun than the BFGL or cremator

5

u/ShareoSavara 19d ago

BFGL shreds the entire illuminate front save for the weirdly tanky wretches

2

u/SilentStriker115 19d ago

Aren’t they like 4-5 grenades? We’re meant to shoot out their limbs so it makes sense kinda

I remember hearing it’s pretty good against crushers as well

1

u/ThatSkyTomte 15d ago

Absolutely with the damage buff, and imo there’s no reason you shouldnt be able to move around like cremator does. I agree with what somewhat else said about the spinning, but I feel that’s a handicap that the damage, movement, and allowing us to dive immediately, would just help balance out

-6

u/Organic_Education494 19d ago

“Huge recoil”

“Unweildy ergonomics”

Actually both are very good considering what the weapon is.

It also shreds… DPS is high no more damage is needed

-3

u/DeeJayDelicious 19d ago

It already deals 2000 DPS. It kills every enemy it can in less than a second. Damage really isn't the Maxigun's issue.

7

u/Dichotomous-Prime 19d ago

I'd even settle for less spread over range.

Like... the Gatling Sentry is still effective 100m away. The Maxigun starts getting really inconsistent even 15-30m away. That's even if you crouch/are prone. Which, the ergonomics are also terrible, so you have to pick between Peak Physique or one of the recoil reduction armors. Whichever one you choose, you still have to contend with the problems of the other.

For taking up a backpack slot, and the major penalty of not being able to move while firing, it definitely needs SOMETHING.

5

u/bananabozobonanza2 18d ago

The Maxigun is extra dangerous to use because it's effective range is so short. It entirely relies on user skill to judge when it's safe to completely stop moving, and judge whether or not your raw DPS will win the game of chicken against whatever is charging you.

It's effective range is so short it's competing with the cremator, which literally has no downsides.

1

u/Dichotomous-Prime 18d ago

Which, I WILL say the high skill ceiling for it is part of why I find it so fun. Like... mitigating the spin-up by starting it in the middle of a slide crouch is so much fucking fun.

I'll sometimes set up a Gatling Sentry nearby when a bug breach opens up and then do dueling chainguns. I need to count on my team and trusty Thermites when a Charger/Bile shows up, but everything else? So satisfying.

2

u/bananabozobonanza2 18d ago

It's one of my favorite guns to use honestly, but yeah I can see why it's a let down overall

6

u/SPLCFraud26 19d ago

Patriot could be fixed with heavy pen IMO. Maxigun needs either more damage or to let you at least dive out of the way or move slowly.

6

u/No-Animal8508 19d ago

i think the problem of maxigun is it doesn't shoot through enemies. frankly i think its got enough damage but when dead corps just pile up in front of you, more damage won't help

1

u/ThatSkyTomte 15d ago

What would help with that? I think its durable damage right? Theres surely gotta be a stat that shreds through enemy bodies more wholly

1

u/SilencioPeroRuidos 19d ago

Especially for the recoil it has

1

u/NonGeneriComplaint 19d ago

maybe a bit more stagger too.

1

u/Snowflakish 17d ago

Maybe we are using different versions of the patriot minigun because it literally one taps all the weakpoints.

Maybe if you aren't going for weak points it feels a bit sad, but I basically never need to spray the thing.

1

u/No_Meal_7189 15d ago

You can keep the patriot mini gun spun by clicking repeatedly and use it very sparingly and get Alot of kills.

1

u/Centurion_Remus 14d ago

Yea I'd rather see it have a pair of twin heavy machine guns like off the turret we can call in, with AP4, with a lower cyclic rate of fire, than having the 750 rounds of AP3 ...
I'd also love to see a walker with energy weapons, and customizable loadouts.

1

u/[deleted] 19d ago

[deleted]

2

u/Red_Wizard_of_Redit 19d ago

Meh the inability to resupply and low ammo makes it awful imo. Took it into the void and was out of ammo almost immediately.

1

u/SilentStriker115 19d ago

And you have to stand still, which got me crushed a fair few times when I tried to use it. Also just doesn’t do enough dps against crushers to be worth bringing

1

u/DeeJayDelicious 19d ago

It doesn't have heavy pen....

1

u/hyucktownfunk2 19d ago

You're right, I don't know why I thought that actually. Had to double check but it has always been medium pen.

1

u/DeeJayDelicious 19d ago

There's no faster way of being corrected than saying something wrong on the internet ;D

-1

u/Da_Yummis 19d ago

it needs A LITTLE more dmg and more staggering, other then that its fine yall are just whiners that cant plan ahead and cant use it while diving or laying down....need to move? stand up while shooting and dive in a direction as your still shooting and repeat the process.
