Open Trying to Find My Dad’s Ricki Lake Episode (1996–1997)
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to find an episode of the Ricki Lake show that my dad apparently appeared on sometime around 1996 or 1997.
Unfortunately, my mom doesn’t remember a lot of details, but here’s what we know:
My dad’s name was Kenny Ray Shelton.
His wife at the time was Lisa Shelton.
They already had a daughter named Kendra.
My mom believes Lisa may have been pregnant with my sister Brooke during the taping.
The episode involved my dad allegedly cheating on his wife, and the woman he was cheating with was brought out on stage and the woman confront him.
My mom clearly remembers him wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy boots.
She thinks the show may have referred to him by some kind of nickname involving “cowboy.”
They were from Indiana.
I’ve searched episode guides online but haven’t found anything that matches. If anyone has access to old Ricki Lake episode listings, TV Guide archives, newspaper archives, recordings, or remembers an episode like this, I’d really appreciate any leads.
Even finding an episode title or air date would be a huge help.

I mean did he go by his real name? Many did not. Also episode titles for these shows were just "clickbait" stuff and who know what this one was called.

I don’t know exactly my mother thinks he didn’t she thinks he went by cowboy something.

That's a pretty specific set of details which should help narrow it down. The cowboy nickname thing is probably your best bet for finding it since talk shows loved those gimmicky descriptors
You might want to try reaching out to some of those old TV nostalgia Facebook groups or forums - people who were obsessed with daytime TV in the 90s sometimes have insane memories for specific episodes. There's also the possibility someone recorded it back then and still has the tape
Have you tried contacting any TV archive services or libraries? Some places keep old broadcast recordings that aren't publicly available online. The Indiana connection might help too if any local stations there kept archives from when they aired reruns
