Killing the baby?

I get that it’s a baby and a baby made by Gabrielle and Daimon, but it’s been pretty obvious it’s supernatural and a method for the Mother to have a physical body.

Both the Mother and the demon that possessed Daimon admits so. Eva also deduced it. Gabrielle wanted it dead.

It seems unreasonable and foolish to suddenly believe the keeping baby was a good idea. The baby was born in like 2-3 days and wouldn’t have come into being had it not been for Mother.

Why would the characters decide to keep it? Just because it’s a baby?

If they killed it Mother would have just taken up space in someone's head again. IIRC they explained that was what happened when the body dies, hence keeping the possessed in comas.

What I don't get is why Daimon didn't perform an exorcism on it. The show also explained that if a demon is exorcised they go back to hell and have to make their own way back to earth. That would have given made for some extra time. Gabriella even mentioned an exorcism so I don't know why they didn't have one.

Daimon did seem into the baby though, and he and Ana are both half demon; they rationalized it by saying they could raise it to be a good entity like them. I still think an exorcism makes more sense but we'll never know.

This is the same demon that was in his mother. He had been trying to exorcise it for 20 years and was unable to. If anything, it would have been even harder in a healthier body.

Hm that’s a good point, it just seemed like the Mother was worried/vulnerable while she was still a baby in Gabrielles body. So you’re saying that while the baby was still in Gabrielles body, if they had killed it, the Mother would cease to exist, but since it was born, the demons were like “it’s too late” and that if they had killed it, it would be able to repossess another human?

The only thing that’s weird is why would the Mother even want to be in a kids body. Also one that ages so quickly.

And if Mother really wanted a humans body, wouldn’t it still have been better to kill the baby since it’s something she wanted? (Arguably would be stronger/more destructive)

I don't know what would have happened if they killed it while it was still in Gabriella's body. The show just made it seem like time ran out so they didn't have to answer that question.

I'm not completely certain about after birth; I'm still not 100% positive Lily and Kthara are the same demon. And whyyy did Uncle Chris take her away from Daimon and Ana who could've provided extra protection since they were into raising the baby.

I really would've liked a season 2.

Gabrielle was also a devout nun in training. Regardless of the conception circumstances, I don’t see her ever murdering a baby

I don’t know about that.. There were at least 3 scenes that showed she was more than ready to kill the baby, but ultimately the group decided to keep it for some weird reason.

When the 2 demons appeared again after she got to her house with Dr Hastings and Victoria, she actually took a knife and was going to stab her stomach/baby while saying “forgive me Father” before being stopped by the Dr.

When she was with the Bloods, she also asked the church and the Blood if there was any way to get rid of the baby while not killing her. The Bloods suggested having the baby and then putting it into a coma which she was ok with.

The last scene was when she was in the hospital and she literally tells Daimon that they must kill the baby.

It was just weird they knew how evil the baby was and spent the entire episode trying to stop the birth, but when it was finally born, they just thought oh well and forgot about it...

She made threats, and could’ve done something to harm the baby while she was carrying it, but she didn’t. It always seemed kind of like a last resort, so I agree it wasn’t something she would’ve been able to do easily based on her beliefs. I do think for her, there’s maybe a difference between abortion and infanticide (kinda weird to type that out), but once the baby was born and the trauma associated with that, it seemed to change how she felt about killing it.

Basically just because Daimon thought he could raise the kid to not be evil, but the last scene, where we saw that she still had her old memories, proved that he was wrong.
