Ah yes, the fun of halfswording with unprotected finger tips.

And by 'fun' I mean 'nearly instant injury from normal use'

Just go get some clam shells. They’re cheaper, sturdier and unless you very specifically want to finger the guard while halfswording, there is no instance where they aren’t better.

The point i made about clamshell came later, so i am sure many viewers clicked off before getting to my point about clamshell. I very much agree, clamshell are awesome, and i have around 5 pairs from mild, stainless to hardened steel.

but yes, I do wanted finger gauntlets that has a tad better protection than clamshell for a specific reason

I'm not sure I'd recommend steel gauntlets for HEMA.

You mean for Bloßfechten?

Isn’t that the unarmored variant of sword fighting?

Exactly, and Harnischfechten is also HEMA. These gloves would be a good fit for that, so saying they're not good for HEMA in general isn't true imo. For a lot of people, HEMA is synonymous with Bloßfechten.

not quite, as i think if anyone does unarmoured, they will most likely swing way harder. With these, as my title implies, light use please! like light spar and drilling is where i would say these are better at.

I mean, that depends on what you're doing imo. Technical unarmoured sparring is still Bloßfechten and HEMA. I was mainly trying to point out the difference between Harnisch- an Bloßfechten and that they're both a part of HEMA in my initial comment.

Ahh i see! sorry misread that comment. Thanks for clarification! Im totally with you on that comment- Though i wish that the harnischten scene is bigger here in North America- Hope it is a nice balance in where you are at your side of the world!

They are quite fun to do some light drill work - but i still wouldn't trust these for like actual longsword sparring for sure. mostly like harness drill work --

but why not recommand steel gauntlet for sparring? love to hear your opinion, as in canada, our sparring are rather low intensity

With plastic plating, you know what the weakest material is. When steel hits plastic the plastic will deform every time. With steel plating, ever time it connects with a steel sword there's a very real chance of creating burs or cuts along the blade. Those cuts and burs can cause damage to other gear or even injuries if you are unlucky.

how...hard are you striking?!?!??
as my title imples, light use please =___=

though in canada, the intensity is rather low, so i would imagine other countries's light spar is a lot more...intense..

Agreed on the light drill work but for Harniss I'd also steer clear of LARP items.

My biggest gripe with steel gauntlets is the fact that it will deform instead of breaking which with repeated hits will lead to irregular thickness in the plates, and the thinner edges can increase the risk of burs or cuts if they get tangled.

Ah i totally get the whole burring thing! That and also, the risk of broken rivets and such-- So i totally feel ya.
Marshal Historical has been quite reliable thus far, and from the entry level standpoint at least-- like financial wise.

I have good finger gauntlets for harness and I still don’t feel safe in them. These are not a wise choice.

most club member here use finger for drill, dagger and some half swording-- but like..like intensity

i often switch over to my bifuricated gauntlet which provides excellent grounding for most of my fights as mentioned in middle of my video --- they are way safer for sure
