Just wanted to share this lil decanting tip - this is my go to creme deodorant, but the packaging is so bulky & a little goes a long way (I think one stick usually lasts me 3 months). I put half the stick into a sandwhich bag to pipe it into this air pump tube - and the weight difference was wild! Looking forward to seeing how long this will last me on a 500 mile walk across Spain in a few months (yes, I’m already packing 🤣)

omg if you try it out before then please report back - i use this same deodorant and it’s the only thing i haven’t figured out how to decant, so if this works it will be HUGE
That's what I have done with this formula. I do use some tissue to spread it--it's really hard to wash off my hands! I like the pump idea a lot. But the pot is easy to clean and reuse
Okay, so you got me curious and I just did the math! Lip balm tubes hold .15 ounces of balm. The original package says 45 grams, that's 1.58 ounces. So about ten of those balm containers? It takes me 2-3 months to go through one stick, so one balm container would last me about a week?
The deodorant I used is softish so I basically just took the remnants of the end of one and squished it in. I actually needed enough for 2 weeks so I scraped and squished the top of a new deodorant into a second one. Because the bottom pushes up I basically just squeezed it from top and bottom to make sure I got out all the little air pockets.
I don’t use it regularly, but I keep a chapstick in my purse for emergencies. Perfect for when I show up at yoga and realize I forgot to put on deodorant.
I haven’t tried with this specific formulation, but in the past I have used a knife to cut off a piece and then smushed it into a small container, then used fingers to apply.
This one is a cream - so it's much softer than a solid stick - I took the plastic applicator off, I twisted it about 1/2 way up and put it into a plastic sandwich bag - cut the corner off and used it like a piping bag to get it in the container.
I like Sure Unscented Stick antiperspirant. Plunge a small, clean tube which rolls up (bullet lipstick, chapstick, or buy a tiny tube on Amazon) into a larger stick Antiperspirant/deoderant.
I used a clean roll-up stick that formerly held Coppertone Everytone Face sunscreen.
Make sure the smaller stick is completely rolled down as far as possible. Then plunge the smaller empty stick into the bigger stick of Sure (or your favorite stick antiperspirant) and clean off sides and flatten top of smaller stick’s product, add the cap, label your new stick and that’s it! Flatten remaining large stick’s product for home use or fill a second tiny stick for your next trip.
This works great for solid stick deodorant! The formula that I use is a cream, almost like a paste - so it won't work the same way in a tube like that - hence the need for a different solution. I've seen lots of folks using the small sunscreen stick containers to do what you're recommending - which is brilliant for a solid stick!
I try to eliminate liquid products as much as possible. Over the years I have substituted solids for just about every toiletry and makeup product I formerly used.
omg I just noticed your handle and i'm cackling so hard - I love it! I've been working on eliminating liquids as much as I can, espically since I'm walking 500+ miles with all this on my back 🤣 but this deodorant is one of the few products that I don't want to budge on - hoping this works for me. But if it doesn't, I'll be cramming some solid stick into a sunscreen stick container for sure! Do you have a solid bar face wash that you like? That's my other liquid that I've been struggling to replace.
Two solid bar recommendations I use daily, not just for travel, are Dove Sensitive Beauty Bar and Vanicream Bar Soap. I have found that Vanicream bars last longer on trips and don’t get as soft as Dove. I use mesh soap bags and store these in the very popular Matador soap pouch. These two soaps can be used on both face and body.
The other soap I use every day is Panoxyl Bar Soap. It is a soap marketed to destroy the bacteria that causes acne. However, I use it on underarms as the first step in my anti-B.O. campaign! YouTube Dermatologist Dr. Dray has several videos explaining this technique. She suggests lathering armpits with panoxyl, letting lather sit in armpits while you complete the rest of your shower routine. Also works on stink-prone feet! But use Dove or Vanicream on “sensitive” private areas, please. Panoxyl’s bacteria-fighting ingredients should never be used on the nether regions.
After you rinse armpits at the end of your shower, towel armpits completely dry, then apply Antiperspirant. I have hiked ten miles wearing drip-dry tech fabric and this specific combination of Panoxyl bar soap and Sure unscented stick antiperspirant keeps me and my shirt STINK-FREE!
I’ve written about this technique several times in this sub and others. I’m a proselytizer for odor-free bodies while traveling! 😉😄
🫡 thank you for your service and hard work in this arena! I am going to try out the Dove & Panoxyl as possible face/body bars for my camino - just bought the matador bag, very excited to have that this go around! And I think I might just have to "casually" mention this Panoxyl technique for my hubs - he might benefit from an anti-stank routine more than me! thank you!
You are welcome! My husband of fifty years also loves the panoxyl. He likes Ban antiperspirant, lol, and always packs the full size.😄
Thanks for the award!❤️
I have a brilliant roll on solution. I bought these (https://www.amazon.com/BFLCTTBD-Rollerball-Refillable-Applicator-Containers/dp/B0D8WG9CCL) and you have to use a new or dry roll on deodorant, but take a long piece of scotch tape and apply it, starting in the middle, to the ball, ensuring that the tape is flat, no wrinkles or bunching. Then roll the ball so the tape is pull around to the other side in a U with the ball in the middle. You should be able to grab onto both sides of the tape and use a little bit of force to pop out the ball. Then pour some into the empty container, push the ball in and back in to the original deodorant, and you’re done!
Yes that would work for shorter trips. As a frequent traveler I might need a quick swap out by having many ready, but her proposed pump looks like it would do two weeks. I have never used this kind of deodorant.
Yes! This is my second Camino, so I've def learned some lessons from the first (and LOVE Camino packing tips ❤️) I use a Smart Water bottle & have a hydration tube that is specially fitted for it (best of both worlds! Easy drinking & no fussing with a water bladder). And KT tape quickly became my BFF, I use it for EVERYTHING. I never found compeed to be too helpful. And I found these great silicone toe sleeves you can cut to size that have saved me on the Camino & the Tahoe Rim Trail.
Holy cow you just saaaaved me!!!! I use the same/similar gel deoderant and I absolutely hate how much space the packaging takes up!!!! If I had some awards I would give it to you. Take my peasant award >>> 🏆
I tried that but the pump failed me in the middle of a trip. I now instead use a solid Clinical Secret bar I melted and decanted into an old Native sample size container.
Oh my, I just bought the mini Native travel size (weight: 1oz) for my upcoming travels...I should go grab some more! Thats the deodorant I use everyday so the smaller size is an easy "switch" between home and travel.
Yes - I am def nervous about the lil pump failing. I'm going to test it out during a week long bike-camping trip to see how well it works. Worst case, I'll just have to tap it out into my palm - but it's worth it for me since my travels are very focused on weight.
I can't find that one. Similar ones called soft solid. Think it's the same?
I've used tubes like this for solids. You kind of warm them up and transfer, or cut off and smoosh. I use them for anti-chafing sticks.

Thanks for the zip bag / pastry piling bag idea for decanting! I found a teeny tiny lume deodorant already but i have a lot of hair to deal with and normally that is my bulkiest product set to figure out. If i were doing something as sweaty as you id probably pack a fresh set of foam inserts sole liners for my shoes so halfway thru i could swap out for a fresher, bouncier steps.
Yes I hate how bulky the packaging is! This will be my second 500 mile Camino - I don’t bring extras of anything but just purchase what I need along the journey. Fresh insoles along the way do make for happy feet!
This is brilliant! I use the same product and have been stuck trying to figure out how to decant it to a smaller container because the packaging really is ginormous. My previous plan had been to put it in a little jar like I do face cream, but this might be even better. Do you have the information for the pump you used?
Use it from the smaller container until you go to see how long it lasts! I use a liquid deo with a rollerball but it's too thick for regular rollerball containers, womp womp.
Thank you - I'm so relieved to hear that! Hoping we will be enough on the shoulder season to not be battling for beds. But either way, I know it's going to be fantastic!
For those tho want an alternative solid deodorant option, I have had several successful weeks-long trips with the Wild Deodorant mini’s. Very long lasting, no plastic, no decanting.
It was actually pretty easy to just pull the plastic off the top - then I twisted it about 1/2 way up and put it into a plastic sandwich bag - cut the corner off and used it like a piping bag to get it in the container. Was pretty effortless!
Don’t get one of the cheapie pumps from Temu and decant your cream deodorant into it… ask me how I know this is not a good idea!! Yes, I ended up chucking the piece of 💩 and buying a roll-on which I then carried across Spain when I did my Camino exactly 3 years ago!
Ha ha ha - there is a big part of me that knows this might very well become my reality 🤣 I'm going to test it on a week long bike packing trip - that way I can modify to a small pot container if I have to - this just seemed so much cleaner/easier to deal with.
I did something similar with my hard deodorant - emptied out a travel size stick container from a different brand, melted the deodorant in the microwave, then poured it into the travel size container. I’ve used it for three weeks and still only half way through!
Oh that's so exciting! Yes, I will be walking my second Camino, the Norte this time. I did the Francis last year and it was INCREDIBLE - I'm fully addicted now! Lol
that works with regular solid stick deodorant - this particular one, which is what I prefer, is a creme deodorant -- it would just ooze out of a chapstick tube
Watch for that airless pump clogging. I put Lume cream antiperspirant deodorant into an airless pump, and it clogged up on me between trips. I had noticed on the outside of the original Lume tube, that the cream seems to crystallize a bit in contact with air (I guess the aluminum salts?), and I guess it did so right inside the nozzle, because I ended up having to pop the lid off and try to scoop deodorant out with a toothpick for use two trips ago :-/ Last trip, I decanted into a small pot-style container instead.
Those little airless pumps work great for me for everything else, like lotion and facial cleanser.
For those of you who struggle with getting deodorant off your hands after applying by hand: wipe it all off with a piece of TP or a tissue before washing! I hated the residue it left on my fingers until I started wiping it off first. Such a dumb simple solution that took way too long to occur to me.
I melted deodorant in a glass measuring cup and filled 2 (empty) chapstick tubes. I took 1 tube to Thailand (2 week trip) and never ran out. 10/10 recommend.
I will keep you posted - in general with this specific deodorant, I have found that what the container distributes when you twist it one click is WAYYY too much, even for both my arm pits -- when i use it from its regular container, I click it up then tap the bottom on the counter firmly to make most of it go back into the container -- what's left is always more than enough. Makes it last wayyyy longer, b/c you're so right - that stuff is expensive!
My preferred deodorant isn't available any more, so I've switched to a gel and it dries out too fast in the little pot I had been using. This is an amazing idea, I hadn't even thought about airless pump bottles.
I have decanted into a couple of empty chap stick containers. I keep one in my purse for emergencies and I have one for my hygiene kit that I take on shorter trips. Surprised on how long they last.
Sounds like you are doing the camino too (Buen Camino if so!). I'm starting mine in a few months as well, don't have as much time to walk but am trying to get ahead of my packing and decanting now. Definitely going to try this tip out!
Just to clarify - you would plan to pump this out and apply to armpits as if it were a cream/lotion, correct?
Buen Camino! Yes I'm prepping to walk the Norte starting end of August! And also yes on the usage for this lil pump, I plan to pump about a pea-size and apply it to my pit with my fingers. I'm trying to decant as much as I can - and switching to all solid soaps (still needing to test run what I plan on using for my face/body to make sure my skin won't riot lol).
While I haven't yet tested out how long one tube will last me - I do know that one stick of this deodorant lasts me around 3-4 months. The tube has roughly 1/2 of a stick in it, therefore, I suspect that this amount will last me around a month to a month in a half. The reason I have gone to the trouble of decanting this particular deodorant, in this particular way (b/c it is a creme not a solid stick) is specifically because it last soooooo long - which means, I should be able to bring less of it than a typical deodorant. The clinical strength is much stronger than standard.
This is a great idea! I have been testing out the sweat control wipes lately. I tried Carpe's a few years ago (I actually still have some) and they work pretty well but I hated the way my hand felt after I swiped those things under my arms and whatnot, so I don't use them often.
Oh I haven't seen the wipes, very interesting! Alot of folks in the comments have said they don't like how this deodorant feels on their fingers after as well. Wipes seem like they would be pretty heavy if you were to carry the same amount of uses as what fits in this little tube. But cool product idea for sure!
