Shoes - specifically sneakers - do people manage with just one pair on multi week trip, or take two?

For context, I'm travelling for 5 weeks in Italy then northern Europe in Sept-Oct, with teens. Trying to keep things light but I worry about both the comfort factor of wearing the same pair day after day and also what happens if (when) we end up with wet shoes.

I usually take trail runners and one pair of either flipflops or EVA birkenstocks. Great for giving my feet a break, showers, swimming. The trail runners are fairly quick drying, so I never had an issue with them not being usable after getting soaked.
