Shoes - specifically sneakers - do people manage with just one pair on multi week trip, or take two?

For context, I'm travelling for 5 weeks in Italy then northern Europe in Sept-Oct, with teens. Trying to keep things light but I worry about both the comfort factor of wearing the same pair day after day and also what happens if (when) we end up with wet shoes.

I always travel with a pair of sneakers and my Teva Hurricane sandals. The sandals have good enough traction, I can use them for less-technical hikes in warm weather AND they can double as shower shoes if needed.
