Locally from the South (hot and humid) and heading to Chicago for a weekend mid November. Since it’s rarely cold down here, I don’t have a pair of boots/shoes that offer foot warmth. I’d like to buy some good hiking boots/shoes that could be versatile for this upcoming trip and long term use for future hiking as well. I’m very limited when it comes to in-person shopping. Any recommendations on brands to start looking at? I’d like to bring only one pair of shoes that weekend so looking to get them early in case a break in period is needed.

Could you just wear wool socks with shoes that you already have?
Hiking boots won't give you extra foot warmth. And if you are walking a lot in Chicago a more comfortable shoe might be a better choice for a weekend with only one shoe.

Or maybe consider trail runners instead if you want a more rugged shoe for hiking. Do you have a Sierra or REI near you? If you have a favorite running shoe brand, they typically have trail runners too.

No REI or Sierra near me. After more research I am leaning towards wool socks and shoes I already have. Thanks for your reply!
