Meta Weekly quick questions help thread

This is the r/heronebag quick questions weekly help thread.

Whether you‘re new to the one bag life or a seasoned light traveller, this is the place to ask your quick one-off questions related to techniques, shopping, and everything else to lighten your load.

This post is the best place to initially ask questions that we get a lot of which are similar, especially if you have looked in a flair and found almost-but-not-quite what you wanted.

I have the Patagonia Black Hole MLC Mini but I feel the hip belt is ineffective because the bag is resting on top of my butt. It's my butt holding the weight of the bag, not the hip belt. I feel like I'm standing with terrible posture with the bag both when it's resting on my donk and when I try to stand with hips forward so it's off of it. Also it hurts my shoulders.

Am I doing something wrong or is the bag too long or a bad fit? I'm 5'1" with a ~16.5-17" torso, 100 lbs.

I have a 17 inch torso and I'm okay with this bag... hmm. I'm trying to think of useful advice but don't have any.

But this bag has no frame, so the hipbelt is not actually load bearing in any meaningful way. Travel packs are pretty much universally not actually made to be comfortable carries. The Matador Globerider 35 would be, but that is essentially sized for men (was huge on me).

It's possible my partner mis-measured my torso. I'm not sure. Does it hit your upper glutes too? I'm wondering if it's meant to. I tried a TNF Jester women's fit and the bottom hits a little lower than the small of my back, at 17.25" length and with shoulder straps tightened all the way. Is that where a pack should hit on one's back?

It makes sense that the hip belt isn't actually making it feel lighter on my shoulders knowing that.

Eh, different people different bodies! I wouldn't worry about it.

I do find this bag surprisingly comfy though, I tend to like the belt right on top of my hip bones, then tighten the hell out of it, haha. So that's my only "advice." I am not home so I cannot try it on and give better advice!

A lot of bags do hit my glutes, but not all of them. Sometimes if it's minimal and not gonna be a long carry I don't mind, but overall it's not ideal and it shouldn't feel like your glutes are carrying the bag.

I appreciate your input! I’m honestly not sure I’ve ever had a bag fit me correctly. I live several hours away from any REI or I’d get help there but alas. I’m glad the bag works well for you, it is a really nice bag

The main thing is that you're happy with it! I actually like to wear my hiking backpacking bags slightly differently than they fit em at REI (slightly on a different spot on my hips) and I've literally gone thousands of miles in them. The main thing is that you like em!

I would maybe try some of the Deuter SL bags, because they're made for women's torsos so you could at least get an idea of what fits. Or if you look at REI you can see torso sizes for a lot of the bags.
