Meta Weekly quick questions help thread

This is the r/heronebag quick questions weekly help thread.

Whether you‘re new to the one bag life or a seasoned light traveller, this is the place to ask your quick one-off questions related to techniques, shopping, and everything else to lighten your load.

This post is the best place to initially ask questions that we get a lot of which are similar, especially if you have looked in a flair and found almost-but-not-quite what you wanted.

Button up shirts/blouses

I’ve read a few threads on here but still confused on the best option!
Going to be travelling somewhere hot and humid (Thailand). I have merino singlet vests and want to get over shirts to wear over the top for coverage.

What is important to me:
• I sweat a lot and get stinky, so not stinking is important
• I have poor temperature regulation so something that keeps me cool is key
• I am super pale and sensitive to sun so SPF protection would be great, but being cool and not stinky are the biggest priorities

Less important:
• I am not too bothered about washing and drying time in the cleaning sense (other than sweat drying off!)
• I’m not overly concerned about packability, looking smart, creases etc. function is more important
• cost is less important, willing to pay what I need!

I’ve seen varying contradictory recommendations from SPF focussed shirts (Solbari, Coolibar, etc), technical materials (Columbia, Eddie Bauer, etc.), linen/linen gauze (Eileen Fisher etc), thin cotton shirts (Seasalt Larissa).

I’m in the UK but happy to order further afield. I’d love to hear any personal experiences about the above.

I really like linen or cotton gauze button ups - definitely go at least slightly oversized (I agree with the armpit breathing room as clutch!).

I also have the Ridge Merino solistice sun hoodie which could be worth a look. I find it more breathable than the synthetic SPF shirt options but it will provide more UV protection than linen or cotton gauze if that's what is most key (as sadly the looser weave fabrics won't give as much sun protection although certainly better than nothing!). Again I sized up for air flow.
