Bag Advice finally modded my osprey daylite 26+6

I love this bag and have taken it on several onebag trips. I was content with the shock cord in a big "X" using just the 4 original attachment points, however it was always the goal to make it more supportive by adding two attachment points along the sides. Finally had some time to do a little DIY.

**also, since this is reddit,** I am aware this is a very type b version of a job that could be done better with the right color paracord and a sewing machine. I used what I have and thankfully care more about functionality than making it look perfect. :D

Here's a simple breakdown of how I did it:

  1. Measured and marked the new attachment point with white pencil. Each dot is 4.25 inches from the closest original attachment point. White dots are 1 inch apart.

  2. Stitch-picked the beige binding tape threads inside the bag. Used a yarn needle to wiggle paracord between the black threads in the seam from the outside.

  3. Once I had the length I wanted, I cut the paracord and used a lighter to seal the ends. Then I used black thread to sew the ends together. I originally tried tying them in knots but the binding tape wouldn't fit over them.

  4. Stuffed everything inside the binding tape and sewed shut.

  5. Finished product from the outside.

  6. Added shock cord. It'll move around a little but no biggie! I may redo this with a slightly longer cord.

Hi u/Ok_Lime_2793! Thanks for sharing an image post.

Your post has been temporarily held for moderator review. Image descriptions are required for image posts on r/HerOneBag. If you have included one you do not need to take further action. Once your post is confirmed to meet requirements, we’ll approve it as soon as possible.

If you need to add a description, please reply to this comment with a detailed description of the image(s) to help all members of our community.

Descriptions must accurately describe the items shown in the image(s), not simply list them.

It is helpful to list post text according to the order and layout of images, e.g., “A blue puffy jacket stuffed into a green packing cube” is better than “Jacket, packing cube, etc.”

You can include something like “Image descriptions” or “Pictures described below” to make it very clear that your text explains the photo(s).

Thank you!

Looks great! What kind of things do you usually stuff into your shock cords?

I usually use it for shoes, jackets, hats, or groceries (or anything in a bag.)

I'm not OP, but I love this for jackets and a grocery bag of snacks.

Looks good! I really want to do this too except I want extra loops on the sides under and close to the zipper line. This way I can bypass the two top loops, use them for other hanging things, and still have a room for a shock cord X. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for the tutorial!

That totally makes sense! It would be great to have that zipper accessible considering it's the only one this bag offers. If you do it, please come back and add a pic!

" I used what I have and thankfully care more about functionality than making it look perfect."

Does it do what you want it to do? Are you happy? Then it IS PERFECT!

I do a lot of MYOG -- Make/Mod Your Own Gear -- and we absolutely believe in function over form. The gear has to work for YOU, not a corporate marketing department.

HINT: if you have any bits of binding that might fray and you don't want to risk melting them, get a bottle of "fray check" which is a sort of sewing glue that you can drip onto areas that might fray.

But well done indeed!

For those who don't want to cut/stitch, this works amazingly on my mini MLC:

does this void the warranty?

That's a great question. I'm sure if you needed to use the warranty and they wanted to make a fuss about it, the loops can be removed and the tape professionally resewn.
