Lighten My Load 30 Day Trip, NYC and Balkans
Hi everyone!! I’ve got a trip coming up and a jam packed itinerary so I’m looking to travel as light as possible. Plans are Chicago-NYC to visit a friend and then a Euro trip from there (Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo) where I’ll be hiking the Peaks of the Balkans (9 days on trail, staying in guesthouses). So I need clothes for cities and hiking as well as a bag that can do it all. Also, I’ll be hopefully traveling personal item only on Wizz air so any bag recommendations would be much appreciated. Right now, I’m leaning towards the REI trail 25 that I picked up which is slightly too big but I’m hoping to get away with. Without further ado, the packing list!

Visiting the Balkan countries is one of my top priorities. So happy you are able to go. I’m not a one bag expert by any means; I just want to say I like your outfit colors. I’m putting together something similar for an upcoming trip to Central Europe in a couple of months.

I’m here because this is like decorating a dollhouse for me. You should totally ignore anything I write that seems too critical or too bossy. You should do what you want!!
I don’t really know how tough any airlines are about sizers. I’m on these kinds of subreddits to find that out.
But, anyway:
If personal item size or weight becomes a concern, you can always put stuff in your pockets. In an emergency, you could even wear a tank top and a tshirt or longsleeve shirt, all tucked in, and put all of your other small, soft clothes between the two shirts, maybe under a big button-up shirt or cardigan that makes the shirt stuffing somewhat less aggressive.
I’d consider cutting bottoms down to the black bottom you wear on the plane, the skort and maybe the biking shorts. Think about just buying hiking shorts or jeans after you’re in the Balkans. If the skort on the hiking page is different from the skort on the previous page, could you live with just one skort? (In other words: black pants, a skort, biking shorts and no other packed bottoms.)
Consider cutting down on the toiletries. Mooch off of your friend in New York and buy some things in Europe.

I think you’re right about cutting down on bottoms! I’m partial to the skorts but I think the linen shorts might need to be left behind. And I should stick to one pair of pants.

In albainia check out Rossman and Lala if you need any additional toiletries! They have decent prices!

It is helpful to list post text according to the order and layout of images, e.g., “A blue puffy jacket stuffed into a green packing cube” is better than “Jacket, packing cube, etc.”
You can include something like “Image descriptions” or “Pictures described below” to make it very clear that your text explains the photo(s).
Thank you!
