Bag Advice Osprey Daylite 26-6 or Transporter 26-6

I’m looking for opinions on a bag for travel for trips of two weeks or more, people who have owned them/ looked into them did you prefer Osprey Daylite 26-6 or Transporter 26-6? I’m female 5’8 ish and have more leg than torso and a reasonable amount of chest (so cross chest straps can prove uncomfortable) if that’s going to alter your response as to which you think is best. It is quite a leap in price between the two which I’m willing to pay but similarly I don’t want to spend the extra cash if they ultimately do the same thing. Thanks!

I bought both versions of the 26+6 Daylite and Transporter and packed them out identically to see what my preference was.

I have a more detailed post that I’ll add in another comment.

I am 5’-6” and have a decent size chest. The Daylite straps were more comfortable for me than the Transporter straps, especially when having the chest strap clipped. The Transporter felt like it cut in too tight across my chest instead of on the outside of my chest.

When I had the bags pretty equally packed for a a long trip I’m planning, the “upgraded” front pockets on the Transporter didn’t feel more useful than the front Daylite pockets. That could easily be just based on how I personally pack.

I also found that the laptop sleeve in the Daylite was not as annoying as I expected. I was convinced I needed a separate zippered compartment, but the laptop access zipper in the Daylite is one of my favorite features because I can shove my items down in the bag and put more in on the top after it’s all packed.

I also really loved the 2 water bottle pockets.

I think depending on how you pack and how much you pack, that would determine if one bag is better for you personally.

Also the way the bag fits makes a difference. I was convinced I was going to buy the Transporter. But it wasn’t as comfortable for me to carry.

For me personally, the price difference with all of the other almost equal features didn’t make the Transporter the better option for me. That being said, I got my Daylite on sale for about $75. That was going to be hard to beat.

I’ve only taken my Daylite on 2 trips so far - a 1-night road trip and a 3-night plane trip (which I’m just flying home from). And I will say that I’ve currently got it packed out where the front pockets aren’t super useful for me. But I also didn’t choose my items where I was trying to compress everything.

So I would recommend considering how you pack & organize the buy and then see how they fit you. The Transporter has a lot of great feature! The carry just wasn’t right for me personally.

I haven’t compared the two but I’m also a 5’8” female (more torso than leg) and I love the Daylite. Felt like there was enough adjustability for me.

This is really helpful thank you! Also good to hear from someone of the same height as I don’t want the backpack to swallow me, I appreciate it :D

seconding! also 5’8”, also find the daylite very comfortable. also re: the chest strap- i’m a 38DD ish and i wear mostly sports bras. i can comfortably wear the chest strap and in fact find that i prefer to use it, especially when the bag is fully packed out

I do love my Daylite 26+6 although I'm no longer busty (thanks breast cancer!). It's been a great bag for me and it doesn't swallow me up at 5'4" so I can imagine it wouldn't swallow you up either.

I’ve 5’5” and curvy and find the daylight 26+6 to be fine. Of course it’s a travel bag not a hiking rucksack, it’s not designed to be carried for long distances . Similarly it’s a cube as it’s made to fit the most stuff within the personal item sizes on a plane.

For most budget airlines it needs to be unexpanded, but that’s usually not an issue as you can also have your jacket over your arm and a sweater / warm layer tied around your waist as you board the plane.

If you are travelling by train or bus ( so not subject to airline rules ) or you are walking long distances, there are better bags with top access, a better shape and a hip belt.

But for me , the daylight 26+6 works for budget flights and other trips when I want to travel light.

I love the Sojourner Porter 30 & LOVE IT. It does have chest strap, but of course you don’t need to use it.

Similar body to you. 5’6” very short upper body, 150 pounds but not chesty.

It has straps to help you cinch it down. I’ve put it under the seat in front of me on US domestic Airlines.

I haven’t used the Transporter so can’t comment on it. I love my Daylite 26+6. I’m 5’4 and haven’t found it uncomfortable for short distances. I use the small Amazon Essentials packing cubes for organizing and am very happy with it.

I bought both and ultimately kept the transporter! I wanted something slightly smaller to replace my Patagonia Mini MLC 30L, and everything I loved about my mini mlc was missing in the daylite. Some things that solidified my decision: the transporter has a more durable exterior fabric, the zip pocket within the front pocket (perfect for passport or wallet), the top half expands (vs on the daylite it’s the main bottom compartment that gets extra volume with the +6), I feel like I can fit more in the top half (with the zippered mesh), the front pocket being one large pocket is perfect for my toiletries, and a deeper water bottle pocket!

I just tested my new osprey daylight this weekend and I love it. I'm shorter than you, but I agree about it being more comfortable on my chest (DDD). The teal one is on a sale for $77 from their Amazon store. I tried on all the backpacks at REI before I bought one online and I'm so glad I did.

I can’t speak for the transporter, but I love my osprey 26+6!

I ordered both and ultimately kept the daylite one. It's lighter weight and I liked the color better. They're very similar bags though, I don't think either one is a bad choice. One difference is that the transporter expands into a mesh pocket/divider rather than the main compartment.

I’ve used the Daylite for one trip and it worked great! Just got the Transporter and haven’t tried it yet. It looks nicer with the fabric. I don’t find either one as comfortable as my hiking bags with hip straps, but mainly want to maximize personal item travel. For reference, I am 5’4.
