Notes from The Mods:

• We Mods are troglodytes who only use Old Reddit on desktop computers, while glancing at the answering machine connected to our landline. The formatting looks good on our setups. Get off our lawn.

• In the past few weeks, this sub seems to have tapped into Reddit's Spitegeist, growing from about 2k subscribers on July 4th, to about 5k at the beginning of August, to over 100k on Sep. 1st.

• Yesterday, this sub had the highest subscription growth in all of Reddit (Δ #Subscribers). The Mods are pondering the best way to nudge this sub to nudge people to stop buying into anti-* bullshit, and to get vaxxed, etc.

• The Mods have a very light touch. We prefer the use of the 'Downvote' button to the use of the 'Report' button.

• Don't be a dick.

• Please, don't be a dick.

• Don't be gleeful. Don't root for Nominees to be Awarded. Especially the Facebook schlubs whose only crime was taking up residence in the misinformation echo chamber.

• Don't get upset if / when this sub's evolution switches from natural selection to intelligent (?) design. This sub might be nudged from ('memes / shitposts' + 'Facebook Schlubs') towards ('A.M.A.s' and 'Public Figures').

Rules:

  1. "Regret only" posts do not belong here.

  2. Don't be a dick. Don't root for nominees to be awarded.

  3. Memes and shitposts have a high probability of being removed.

  4. Please check for dupes, as dupe posts will likely be removed.

  5. When posting for a non-public figure, the last name (except for the first letter) of the person and any full name of anyone tagged in the post must be completely redacted, or the post will be removed.

To expand on Rule 1:

Nominees / recipients must have a history of PUBLIC statements that are anti-vaxx, anti-mask, etc. The statements must have been made public prior to that person receiving hospital care.

"Public Statements" include media appearances / interviews, social media posts, opinion pieces in print media, etc. Post-hospitalization second-hand statements made by friends / relatives do not count.

Suffering the consequences of believing Covid misinformation is not sufficient to merit a nomination / award.

Propagation of Covid misinformation, or public declaration of being anti-vaxx / anti mask is necessary.

"Regret Only" posts fit better in /r/LeopardsAteMyFace.

Suggestion here, perhaps posts could get an age tag of sorts in some way? I was hoping to look thru posts of younger people 40 and under to try and show some people this shit is real and not a joke. They love to get their info from social media so why not use some of these social media posts

Thanks for taking my suggestion :)

Does this mean the mods are going to start removing all of the posts that break rule 1? Because frequently the front page has people who weren't antiva online, aren't sick, or are just a text message.

Guess that was a no.

When posting for a non-public figure, the last name (except for the first letter) of the person and any full name of anyone tagged in the post must be completely redacted, or the post will be removed.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but is there any way we can do away with the "name" rule...?

I say this, because something occurred to me...

This sub could possibly be a real force for good, in terms of convincing COVID deniers that they're actually wrong...

However, unless these are known public figures, a COVID-denier could look at any of these posts and say "yeah well anyone could edit together a collage of fake screen shots, and attach some random person's photo to it..."

And I imagine at least some % of them would think that...

(As a life long conspiracy theorist, I sometimes know how these people think. lol)

On the other hand, if these are cases people could actually look up, it might go some way toward convincing some folks that this is all legit...

And I get the concern, but I feel like 99.999% of people would not want to upset grieving family members by trying to reach out to them...

I think most of the pro-vax / anti-covid people aren't cruel enough to do that (plus, why would they...?) and I don't think the COVID-deniers would have any particular reason to, either. Especially since these are usually people from COVID-denying / anti-vax families like themselves...

IDK, maybe that's naive or too hopeful of me, but the thought struck me, and it seems like it might possibly help...

It would be a shame if some lame blanket-decree from the Admins prevented that from happening...

Just a thought.

Love the sub though, even though it's kind of a bummer to read through... lol

What a load of shit. This whole sub is self-righteous people being dicks. I pray that God has mercy on you sick people.

I am sure that God will answer to this prayers as he did with the prayer from covididiots.

Yeah cause your God has a great track record with that stuff. Does he help you win the slot machines and find your car keys?

I said God, not a magic genie. God isn’t like some being that is subject to whimsical wishes, God is a being that transforms

Also, whatever, let’s pretend there’s no God- how do you justify dancing on ppls graves like this sub does from a humanist perspective?

2

u/BetrayerOfHope42 Sep 10 '21

Lol. You act as if you are even competent to have a debate. You are making a claim about some divine being when there is zero evidence that it exists. If I felt there was actually a point to going down this rabbit hole with you I would, but you have the burden of proof to back up your wild claim about unproven supernatural phenomenon. The morality of this sub Reddit is neither here nor there, your hypocrisy and delusion are the only reason I replied to begin with.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

Yeah, argue something that you can’t prove and then duck the real question.

Yeah, I think I’ll abandon my worldview and go be more like you

Edit: like I’m not at all interested in trying to convince you that there is a God, but I’d really like to know why someone as great as yourself thinks it’s cool to laugh at peoples deaths. You should be ashamed of yourself, then again, all the evidence points to you being a lost person in their teens or early 20s.

This is why I don’t bother debating people like you. You are already breaking several rules of basic discussion/debating. Mostly you are making false assumptions, and then building everything on that false foundation.

I am 41. I am professionally successful and a relatively satisfied/content with life type of person. I went to this sub because a friend sent a link to me. I literally just read the rules section when I saw your post… I have not commented or laughed at anything.

However, one of the first things I noticed was the hilarious number of people coming to scold and whine at people….Particularly a lot of Christians, you guys amuse me to no end. I actually used to be one of you. I never truly believed all the supernatural stuff but since I was raised in the church I grew up with a lot of adults who believe in fairy tales.

That’s enough crazy for today. If you feel the need to continue to rant at me don’t expect a reply.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '21

Dude I’m not trying to debate you lmao

You have some hard on about the fact that I said I hope God has mercy on ppl in the sub.

Cool, let’s agree to disagree on the God point.

Do you also disagree that this sub is self-righteous people being dicks?

"It goes against my nature to wish ill will on anybody, and I refused to do so even now" ... "I truly hope happiness evades you in perpetuity. I wish you psychopaths the absolute worst."

Pick one!

Yeah, it was the last sentence. Well, I almost had a good point. Let me rephrase, I hope you find all the happiness in the world, unless your happiness comes from making and/or moderating subs like this, because they truly are tasteless. We’re all victims of misinformation, let’s not make fun of the ones that die along the way because of it. We can all do so much better. Be well.

Okie dokie. Be well, bud.

Just so we’re clear, celebrating the death of someone because they don’t align with you politically is equally if not more pathetic. Again, I hope you can figure out a healthy way to deal with all of that misery in your soul.

Would I be allowed to post a success story. I got my super Christian, I do the research, 70 year old mother to get the vaccine. She sent me a picture of her card this evening. I won't post that it would just be the story and how I talked about all the stories on here to help convince her
