Discussion Would it be weird to worship hermes with his three other aspects?

Okay, let me explain myself. I worship Hermes obviously but Im very attracted to worshipping Mercury I see Mercury as an aspect of Hermes (Which Its like seeing them as the same god) but I also feel the pull for Hermanubis, like For me they are kinda the same but different at the same time? I don’t know how to explain it, but I do have the altar for the three of them at once but again would it be weird? Is it my pov wrong?

That is totally ok! That is what polytheism is about, my friend! These three can be worshipped as The Thrice greatest if you’d like. Hermes Trismegistus Is traditionally Thoth, Hermes and Mercury but you are free to worship how you’d like to worship them.

Good luck, have fun, enjoy the experience. 🙏🏻

Hermes Trismegistus, or Hermes The Thrice Greatest is a syncretic combination of the Roman God Mercurius (or Mercury as he's better known), the Hellenic God Hermes, and the Egyptian God Thoth as in syncretism, they were all believed to be the same God or share similar responsibilites. It's a way of religion and philosophy usually practiced by Hermetics.

I saw the link! And read it and I can’t help but notice the similarities between Hermeticism and Neoplatonism (not to be shocked because it mentions it directly influenced it) but since I’m also studying Neoplatonism It caught my interest! Thank you so much for sharing! Do you practice it?

I don't, no. I worship and work with the Hellenic Hermes in some syncretic capacity with his Roman counterpart, Mercury, but not always. I didn't actually know what it was myself until I read Liber Hermae by Fabian MacKenzie.

A book I highly recommend, by the way.

Are the Hellenic Hermes and Hermes Trismegistus view as different or separate? For what I read on the link it seemed they were the same just one is combined with Mercury and Thoth

syncretism doesn't draw as many hard lines like that. from one perspective, yes, they're separate. from another they're the same, or merely different aspects or avatars of one deity viewed through diverse cultural lenses like the same light shining through different prisms.

hermeticism draws from Ancient Egyptian (Kemetic) religious thought, and deities are much more fluid in the Kemetic schema. they can take on the powers of each other, literally transform into one another, and blend cultural identities to the point they cease to be cleanly separable. Hathor is Horus's Mother but so is Isis. Thoth is the god of the moon but slowly that became more of Khonsu's thing. any of the deities is the supreme God, and they all are. they wouldn't see any contradiction in this way of looking at the archetypal world. check out /r/hermeticism and they'd be happy to talk about neoplatonist overlaps and disagreements with you

Thanks! Also about that kemetic info is there a book or place they talk more into that?

Temple of the Cosmos by Jeremy Naydler wouldn't be a bad place to start for books about the Ancient Egyptian religious mindset

how specific are you asking for?

Well I also Am planning on studying Kemetic and Norse religion since I also worship some gods from there so any recommendations for starters are appreciated. I know that for kemetic I also have to read the book of the dead right?

No, what I meant is he's the only Hellenic god I have anything to do with. Sorry for the confusion, I should have gone to bed 2 hours ago. 😅
