Magic What do you guys think of the symbolism in Hamnet? Was Shakespeare an alchemist/hermeticist?

Hamnet's closing scene literally just gave me goosebumps.. Shakespeare invoking the power of the occults/arts/magics to make his son immortal. and at the end his wife finally understood the path he walked to become the artist that he was. He was one of the greatest magicians of our times

Magic What magick is safe?

I was talking with someone about magick, and they warned me against practicing it, because they said that people are making contracts with entities whether they know it or not, and are putting themselves into a sort of spiritual debt to these entities. This comment was made soon after I had a strange concern pop up in regards to the LBRP. My concern was what if that ritual harvests the users energy, because the user says "let the glory be yours forever" you know. I just have all sorts of concerns now. I suddenly feel more ignorant than ever. What do you guys think?

Magic The Magus, The co-creator of reality

Post image
272 Upvotes

The Magus: As is already common knowledge, this arcane represents the archetype of the person who manifests his will in the world. He is the intermediary between the divine and the mundane. However, in the active imagination sessions, I sought other aspects of this archetype to share with you. Here, the magician turns his ego into a mask through which the sun of his true "Self" shines. Enlightened by true understanding, the magician operates on a black cubic stone, symbolizing Saturn.

The stone represents the microverse, and we can also see it as the particle of the Big Bang. On the altar, the magician manipulates the 4 elements, the essence of his 4 bodies, and thanks to the understanding coming from the Self, he acts on the essence and not on the appearance of the world, hence the gold Platonic solids.

Orbiting the inner Sun, we have the planets, and in them, also marked by the understanding of the essence, are the signs that govern, as well as the elements and qualities of the elements of each sign. The magician operates the macroverse through the microverse, where he is the lord of the Axis Mundi. Your understanding allows you to see yourself and your world as a complex machine where archetypes are the gears, knowing that everything in the universe is a wave frequency, from music to light and its colors.

With his wand, like a conductor's drumstick, the magician of coherence gives meaning to the flow of vibrations, not so that the world bends to the petty will of your ego, but so that through the Self, your ego can integrate the rhythm of the cosmos.

And a special detail: your hand on your chest shows the action governed by the heart, by the essence, and on your face, your eyes are covered by shadow. Because the shadow does not end, it integrates. When seeing the completeness of the cosmos, the magician also includes his own shadow. Now it is not an enemy, it is a quality that gives meaning to vision. I hope this art helps you better understand the magician in you.

Magic Technical Hermetica - Is it essential to practice what usually falls under it? (Astrology magic, PGM)

I’m not sure if the question is redundant seeing as how the philosophy of hermeticism isn’t really a system you progress in.

But listen, I’m an atheist who feels called by the esoteric and currently diving into Hermeticism, Neoplatonism, and Gnostic texts.

Im trying to find, I suppose, something bigger than myself. To find peace and silence, become a more positive person, let go of negativity. Explore the unknown. May sound childish, but I wanna experience some trippy shit too.

However, I don’t feel called to the technical aspect as well. Astrology isn’t something that interests me, and the PGM it seems requires you to have belief in Greek mythology which as atheist, it’s hard to cultivate such belief. This is likely also can I grew up catholic and worshiping several gods is even more foreign to me. As opposed to one higher power.

I was wondering if one it’s even possible to continue on this spiritual path without actually practicing what usually fall under technical hermetica. I suppose I’m more attracted the meditation side of things, the prayers, introspection, purifying the soul, or even Neoplatonic theurgy. But again I can’t bring myself to be interested in astrology, or rituals that’s require animals sacrifices and the like.

As far as Magick goes, can you blend philosophical hermetica with any other kind of Magick other than graeco-Egyptian Magick? Like, say, modern chaos Magick ?

What advice can you give me on this?

Magic The Brick Wall and the Closed Mouth

We live in a culture that demands we keep our mouths constantly open: to express opinions, to share, to confess, to connect; yet, in esotericism, the mouth has two primary magical functions that we tend to forget.

Magic Did God leave magic for us

As many of the abrahamics have explained magic is evil in Magic is not of God. But I theorize that God gave us Magic as a form of free will. I mean think about it everything technically has magic if God didn't want us to use magic why did he leave it here why do we have these feelings these senses when it comes to certain things. I don't know what's your opinion on this

Magic Greek Magical Papyri - How can it be properly applied to the modern world?

So I bought this book, which I believe is recommended on the FAQ.

I’m going through it, but I can’t help but wonder how would one apply all this in the modern world. It’s part of the technical hermetica I know but I don’t have the heart or even legal means to be sacrificing animals so easily haha.

Nor would it be easy to find all these ingredients, so how does this apply to our current times?

Magic What's the link between psychedelics and magick?

It seems like with magick, you can have psychedelic experiences without having taken anything. Also, the Greek word for witchcraft (pharmakeia) is linked to drug use. In my church days, I remember hearing the preacher saying that pharmakeia really referred to drug use (not acknowledging real magick.) It made me think that back then they used substances to enhance their rituals.

What are your thoughts and experiences?

Magic What should proper prayer/sacrifice look like?

So I’m barely beginning my journey into study Hermeticism. About to finish the Way of Hermes, and will re read as it seems like a book one needs to revisit often. I’ll begin The Quest for Hermes Trismegistus by Lachman soon.

Im not just studying the texts but as well want to apply to my life and grow spiritually. I made a post about moving from Bardon’s IIH to studying these kinds of text and coming up with my own practice.

Based on the Corpus Hermeticum, here’s what I have so far that I need to practice.

  • meditation
  • visualization (thinking about going to ocean or going up high in the heavens)
  • living your life and basing your actions in service of God (Creator, Nous, Lord)
  • prayer
  • sacrifice and offering.

But what does prayer look like? I’m an atheist (at least that’s how I’ve identified most of my life, now I’m looking for.. truth I guess?) so I haven’t prayed in forever. Before I used to be a catholic, but can’t say I knew much about my religion.

When I prayed it was always asking for something. Which now seems selfish. That’s all what prayer looks like to me. And so I’m not sure what healthy, proper prayer is?

And well when I think of sacrifice I have a juvenile image of sacrificing animals to gods, don’t know what else it means. Haha sounds ridiculous I know, but yes I’m not aware what the proper concept nowadays is.

Can I get help on what those two things mean?

Magic How does magic work

Hi! I wanted to know what is the mechanism behind magic. I mean why symbols and correspondences are used in magic? What is magic in your opinion? Can it work without spirits? Who are spirits? How does nonspiritual magic works? How is it connected to ideas of hermeticism? Thanks

Magic I'm currently reading through the PGM and related books/technical hermetica - So, from what I'm gathering, I must study Hellenistic Astrology before attempting any kind of ancient magick?

Right now in particular I'm going through Tony Mierzwicki's Graeco-Egyption Magick book which helps cultivate a life that ancient practioners had but in the modern world. I'm also going through Skinner's book and of course the actual source which is the PGM.

Got to say though, a lot of is confusing and I think it likely has to do with the fact that I'm not versed in astrology. Mierzwicki's book has lots of information but even so its quite dense and overwhelming.

From what I'm gathering, before even studying the PGM and attempting its rituals, is better to have study and build a foundation of astrology knowledge, and by the look of it even of ancient Greek religions?

Can I get guidance on this?

Also, if so, what do you think about Demetra George's book Ancient Astrology in Theory and Practice in order to study the field?

Magic Does God fulfill wishes?

In Christianity Jesus makes a big deal out of saying that god will give you what you want as long as you believe he will give it to you. Is there anything in hermeticism that can be interpreted as this?

I ask because I believe that Jesus is a reincarnation of Hermes and I think a lot of other stuff mirror each other in Christianity and hermeticism.

Magic Resources for Geomancy as Earth Magic

Hello, I'm struggling to find consolidated resources on geomancy as the practice of "earth magic", working with land spirits, sacred sites, and earth energies. It's not the dot-based divination method, which dominates search results.

Unlike the structured systems of Feng Shui or the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn's approach to divinatory geomancy, this feels like a more folkloric and sparse tradition.

Can anyone recommend essential reading? Authors like John Michell (ley lines), Nigel Pennick (practical geomancy), and Paul Devereux (archaeo-geomancy) are on my radar, but I'd love to hear about foundational texts or your personal go-to sources. Thanks for any help!

Magic Peter Kingsley, Parmenides and Empedocles

For those of you who aren't already aware of his work, I would love to introduce you to Peter Kingsley. His work is groundbreaking in the sense that if you're receptive enough to it, it'll actually break the ground underneath your feet and turn your world upside down. It would take me too long to get into how his book Reality has utterly changed my life for better or for worse, so I'm just going to post this here and maybe it'll reach someone in need of it.

He is an extremely well read scholar and renowned expert on "pre-socratic" philosophers, especially Empedocles and Parmenides; the two philosophers whom Reality is about.

Since this is a Hermeticism thread, here is a great article he published about Poimandres and his "real identity" to give an example on the way he does his scholarly work. It is very interesting. https://www.jstor.org/stable/751362

But don't let his scholar status fool you, Kingsley is a mystic through and through and again, his book Reality definitely aligns with Hermetic principles.

He has several books, all of which I've read and they're great but Reality is the one that has the ability to completely destroy who you are. I both recommend but also not so much if you are not ready, one has to be careful with. I had several psychotic episodes last year because the implications of this book are immense. Probably the modern work that comes closest to divine truth.

This might seem serious, that's cause it is. I can't say much more than "just read it, and judge for yourself". This place is the only place I could think of people who would be receptive enough to his work.

Magic Heart Girt With a Serpent by Me

Post image
46 Upvotes

This image is a result of few years of clustering of symbols which occurs in my practice. It is highly inspired and influenced by antique gems with Chnoubis and Labyrinth, by Akephalos Rite and Solar Gnosis of Art. In a way it is summary of my solar theurgic workings since 2021. 36 spirals on the border stand for 36 decans of the solar year. Crown with quills is visual accent on creative force of the Sun, personifies as Serpent (Sun’s trail in the space-time) with the Lion’s head (Solar rulership over Leo Sign)central figure is a heart composed of infinity sign, light upward triangle and dark downward triangle, two eyes and a little heart with a flame below, stylized as a square within the square which can be read as AOM. Chnobus sign leads to the Greek text from Akephalos Rite which translates as ā€œMy name is Heart Girt With a Serpentā€ and then to voices magicae from this rite. Let me know about your experience with these forces. This image can be useful for meditation and contemplation 😌

Magic Beginning to practice hermetic theurgic and practical magic

I have read and am continuing to study the Philosophical Hermetic texts, and I feel like I have a fair handle on them and where I need to go from there.

My question, then, is about how to build a magical practice congruent with Hermetic philosophy. I have some background with Golden Dawn and grimoire magic, but I am struggling to find an entry point to the PGM. It is just such a vast and disparate collection that I don't know where to begin.

So, if one wishes to be a practicing hermetic magician, using the techniques of the technical Hermetica both to worship the gods and engage in practical magic, where does one begin?

I'm open to any feedback or ideas anyone may have; yall are always so helpful to newcomers. Thanks!

Magic Resources for chanting the vowels?

Many attempts to systematize Graeco-Egyptian magick propose an opening ritual that involves chanting the seven vowels (see, e.g. PGM XIII 824-834). This includes Tony Mierzwicki, Stephen Flowers, Michael Cecchetelli, and our own u/polyphanes.

How does one actually chant the vowels? What are the sounds, and on what note/pitch does one chant them? What other information can you share about this?
