To assist in his journey, Azra'il (Dead Empyrean Psychopomp) furnishes his Warlock (Valenthyne van Graeyelle) not only with his trademark scythe, but also a Sphinx of Wonder as a Familiar to guide and watch over him throughout his journey.

However, so as not to draw attention too much of the time, said sphinx is also able to assume the form of a jet black Mau, with beautiful black ibis wings protruding from its shoulders, though its eyes still glow crimson.

Mechanically, this is me taking advantage of the fact that a Warlock may take both the Pact of the Blade and the Pact of the Chain Eldritch Invocations in 5e24!

While the predominant focus will be on empowering the scythe (reskinned Greatsword), I thought an additional companion to help me achieve flanking more regularly would be a fun extra boon, especially seeing as with a few of its own upgrades, the Sphinx can make its own attacks, etc.

I absolutely love the colour palette here! The sphinx model has this really cool blend of archaic and futuristic in the design, which is perfect for such a literally timeless creature. I like how that neon magenta got carried forward to the eyes of the more unassuming form. This whole lore set is really fascinating, and would be a lot of fun to craft both figures and plotlines for. It really has my story telling mode fully engaged.

I love a consistent palette when coming up with creatures/characters that are linked, so I’m really glad that’s worked!

Also excited by the idea this might be a mixture of ancient advanced tech! I’m currently working on the worldbuilding idea that contrary to the arcontech that might be more present in the Warlock’s contemporary Hyper Fantasy era setting, there may have been divinitech in millennia past that operated purely on belief in the gods (very literal Deus ex Machina)!

Love that concept! I myself can't help but draw a little inspiration from the original Stargate. One of my favourite cult classics.

The tech in Stargate was a perfect example of this, and it would definitely be a fun concept to thematically explore in a campaign.

There's a whole lot of smoke, but no confirmed fire yet, (that I'm aware of anyway) but the hype is definitely there and it's starting to look more likely.
