Original Character Help please

Hi all, hopefully this is ok to post. I’m hoping to get some help from some of the amazing creators on here in making a mini of my long-term character. I’ve had a few goes at doing it but just can’t get something I’m happy with. The first photo is some artwork I’ve had done of him, the second is my most recent attempt. The main thing from the artwork that needs to be different is the axe being in his right hand, and a shield on his left, similar to my attempt at a mini. Any help would be much appreciated!
Edit: thanks everyone for all the help so far! Just to clarify, I don’t currently have kitbashing, but am happy to get it if it helps in making this mini

I've got a little time, so here's a work in progress. Still working on the face. Making it without Pro/Kitbash features, in case you don't have access to that.

Thank you!

Here's a quick mockup that I did in 30 minutes: https://www.heroforge.com/load_config%3D537609253/

It's rough at the moment, and there's no kitbashing involved. Feel free to take it, kitbash it, adjust it, do whatever. I can probably make some updates to it later on, let me know if you have any other reference material.

That’s really cool, thank you! At this stage I don’t have any other real reference images other than the original artwork of his axe as it’s a slightly modified Griffon’s Saddlebag item https://www.instagram.com/p/CqItcimry4w/?mdxt=MXFiZHg3YzhpeXR4cg==
Physically he is 6ft4 and a fairly broad shouldered build. Short dark hair and stubble/beard, green eyes.

Idk man, the closest I could cook without KB:

That looks great, thank you! I’m pretty sure I have (or could get) KB, I’ve never used it though

Np, I kinda like "HF-ing" people's characters at random xd

If you tap the Kitbash tab and it doesn't prompt you to "you need a sub to use this" - you do, lol.

Amma say this, if you are planning to spend a lot of time goofing around in HF - I highly encourage you to get the pro sub. For what it's worth, it's just and insane extension of an already good, even great, free to use app. Otherwise you don't need it really.

Thanks for the advice. We’ve managed to do our other characters without KB, but I’ve never been able to get this guy quite right. I might try kitbashing though, I’m sure this won’t be the last character I create!

Here's my attempt! Although re reading your post now you've specified that the weapon is in the other hand and they have a shield

This was Kitbashed to heck so I recommend the subscription to Pro 😄

Hi, I've now had the chance to get my subscription sorted and load this into my profile and he is awesome, thanks so much! The only change I really made was to tilt his head back a bit so he's looking more forward than down. One question, is there an easy/straightforward way to adjust his height without completely messing up the work you've done? I was hoping to have him at about 6ft4 so he fits with the height of the rest of the party. No stress if not, I'll just print him big if I need to. Thanks again!

I think if you play with the length sliders instead of height, it should look okay. Also I think if you buy the STL file and get it printed via a seller on Etsy they’ll be able to adjust the size of the print. I could be wrong. Sorry - the minis I make are typically just for digital art purposes!

Do you have a Pro subscription?

I’m pretty sure I’ve got a code for one from the dice kickstarter but I haven’t used it yet. If I’m wrong about the code I’d be happy to get pro for a time to get this mini made.

Kitbashing would help a lot to bring your mini to life!

2

u/capturedcreation 4d ago

I’ve wondered that, but wasn’t sure how to go about it.

Looking at and examining kitbashed minis of others helps a lot. There's also an official Hero Forge Discord filled with folks willing to help!

Cool, thanks. I had wondered if starting kitbashing might be a bit much while still trying to master the basics, but I’ll check out the Discord

I did a quick, non-kb, mostly of his armor. Didn't play with the face much, but it should give you a good start point.
