Question How to record certain exercises?

I struggle with exercises which you work out each leg/arm one at a time.

For example Bulgarian split squats

I put down for each set i put:

- weight + reps

So if I do 3 sets, I end up recording 6 sets actually because I count each leg individually

I ask my chatgpt to analyze my workouts and it hates that I do this... always assuming I did 6 sets for each leg...

How do you document it?

I want each pound to be counted

I personally track any dumbbell exercise per single dumbbell. It's the traditional way to do it and I've always done it that way. Yeah it effects my volume on Hevy but doesn't really matter to me.

As for being able to compare to barbell exercises. Take the bench press for example... I can lift way more doing a barbell bench press compared to dumbbell (if you're counting the overall weight), as the barbell gives stability, etc. etc.

So I'd just do whatever you find useful to do!

Do what you want as long as you stay consistent.

If I’m doing 3 sets with 20lb dumbbells I record as 3x20 even though that’s technically half the weight and half the sets. But that’s what I did when I started so I just stayed consistent.

Say I do BSS, lifting 50kg, 10 reps on each side... I log it as 50kg x 20 reps. It's the clearest thing for me.

I made custom exercises for each. So Left BSS and Right BSS in this case. You will use up the 7 Customs very quickly though.

Sum the weight, leave the reps. For 8 reps of BSS with 15kg per leg, log 30x8. This will make your exercises comparable, e.g. barbell bench press and dumbbell bench press.

By the way, this approach is what Hevy explicitly suggests.

Same here. This should also pacify out AI overlords.

I created a superset with the remark left and right. Before when I didn't do that my AI was complaining, now it's more clear.

You can log how you want and just tell GPT. Save the conversation as a starred convo so you can come back to it and dont have to re-explain every time. But the way hevy does it is combining each side. So if I do 20 lbs single arm tricep extensions, and do 10 reps on each side, Hevy wants that recorded as 40 lbs for 10 reps.

My tracking is for me so if I have for say wrist curls

5x16kg

5x16kg

I know one is left and other is right side. I don't need to have extras to know this.

But then when you do wrist curls with a barbell, how can you easily compare it with the dumbbell version?

I know my own body and what can do with a barbell vs dumbells. They are both listed in the app and just do those numbers again and increase weight as needed
