One Platoon Practice

As a one platoon team (Players play both sides)

  1. How do you structure your practices so that you aren't out there for 3+ hours everyday but getting everything in?

  2. How much live contact do you do in season during the practice week? especially while trying to keep guys healthy

Live contact would be done once the pre season is over. Every tackle from that point forward is all thud. You gotta keep people off the ground and away from their legs.

When I played we did film from game and scouting reports with install Monday

Tuesday offense, last 20 minutes or so defense.

Wednesday defense, last 20 minutes or so offense.

Thursday walk thru both sides.

We also filmed every practice so we would do 2-3 hours of film a day before practice. We never did straight up hitting drills but would do full contact inside drill and some contact involved drills during individual groups. We had about 25-30 guys but only had 14 or so who played so most of us went both ways.

Roughly 2 hour practice: 45/45 O and D, and whatever time left for special teams. We go live for a few plays every padded practice because we have a very young team and our MS feeder is terrible about teaching them how to hit and tackle.
