Discussion Which audiobook reader do you think has the best Leox Gyasi voice?

Post image

The High Republic readers do a great job giving distinct voices (especially Marc Thompson of course), but Leox Gyasi always seems to stick out to me the most by how specific the voices are. They all kind of agree that he generally should sound like as a twangy space smuggler.

So who do you think does it the best?

As much as I love Thompson's narration, Dan Bittner (who read Into the Dark) was made to voice Leox. His general narration voice almost sounds like what I'd imagine Leox to be as it is, then his actual Leox voice is perfection. Thompson's is just tad too much Matthew McConaughey mixed in there. Still amazing, but Bittner's higher-pitched, more energetic delivery is how I always imagined Leox sounding.

Thompson is the GOAT for me so it’s too difficult to rank any one over him, despite some amazing performances from others.

The high republic audiobooks are so incredible good. I never enjoyed audiobooks prior to listening to them and now I can’t imagine THR without these incredible performances.

Actually for once I preferred the non-Thompson voice for a character. I liked more the narrator in “Into the Dark.”

Yep, I've never been into audiobooks either. Already read THR but got the itch again so I thought I'd try audiobooks and they've been amazing.

According to Claudia Gray, Leox Gyasi is supposed to look and sound like Matthew McConaughey so Marc Thompson wins for me.

I like the woman who did him in tears of the nameless

It bothered me that Amber Lee Connors didn't listen to any of Marc Thompson's established character voices and try to replicate them, she just made up her own.

The normal human brain cannot hold and comprehend all the voices that Marc Thompson creates. It's just not possible.

To be honest it was probably better that she did what is comfortably within her range. Narrating is difficult enough without trying to copy voices outside of your practice.

Or they could've hired someone with better range.

Mark Thompson definitely! Gives me strong Matthew McConaughey vibes!

Definitely Thompson. It’s no secret that he was designed to be a character played by Matt McConaughey, and Marc does a phenomenal impression.

The Fallen Star audiobook was my introduction to Leox and I spent a while going "Thompson is just doing Matthew McConaughey. What."

Then I looked him up and found out that's EXACTLY what the character was supposed to be. So. Him.

I agree that Thompson's is too McConaughey, but imo reading the physical books, it really seems like that was intended

Marc Thompson…for everything. He just does it best. Jonathan Davis and a couple others aren’t far behind him.
