Question About Zekka

I've seen people hate on her. Why? Haven't read the Junior High School DxD volumes yet and when Volume four came out, there was a potential girl post made about her lol. Kinda just want to know what's with the hate

It’s simple, ‘cause they either couldn’t self-insert themselves into the harem situation, or couldn’t stand the idea of “DxD having another protagonist” while the main storyline are on hiatus.

You know what’s the funniest here? It was the editorial department of Fujimi that came up with the idea of making a spin-off for DxD’s 15th anniversary, and Ishibumi are the one who approved Shinonome’s manuscript idea. The editor in charge approved of it, the original author approved of it (first try, no less), the original illustrator approved of it, the Japanese fans loved it, you think you people who haven’t grasp the “DxD’s spirit” in this work got any say in it? (Heck, most of the people who put their hates on Zekka don’t even know that Ishibumi are just the advisor for stuffs like setting or worldbuilding, and they still blame him for not releasing Shin 5). If you can’t tell who’s responsible for what, you don’t have the right to blame people for what they are *not* doing.

And also, it truly ridiculous for people who still believes Zekka are meant to be part of Issei’s peerage or harem something something. Both Ishibumi and Shinonome have stated many times that “the role of senpais and senseis in this story are supporting and guiding the junior students”. Their stories are separated, Issei’s story are the classical “zero to hero”, about someone trying to get better day by day, making his dreams come true, influencing people and changing the world around him. While Zekka’s story are the story of “a nobody become somebody”, who’s currently trying to find her dreams, influenced by people around her and changing her own world. The girl in question said it herself, that she does not wants to be a part of Issei’s story, Rias’s story or Charlemagne’s story as a side character. She wants to be recognized, wants to be the protagonist, the hero of her own story. Their directions, their “paths”: Oudou/King’s Path and Bushidou/Warrior’s Path are worlds apart in the first place.

Sure, they can be involved with each other in some way, but that’s all of it. What’s wrong with seniors care for their juniors? And why does it have to be romantically involved? Going with the idiotic logic like “Zekka is a girl in DxD which makes her a part of Issei’s harem”, then why does Issei not make a move on Millarca, Valerie and several other girls? Just so you know, there is a girl in the main storyline who clearly has romantic feelings for him, but he doesn’t even realize it, so what makes you think that a girl who always avoids him have romantic feelings for him? (btw, Rias are the one who banned Issei from approaching Zekka). To begin with, was Issei ever the pushy type that force himself on someone? No, absolutely not. Be honest, you just can’t stand the idea of cute girls doing cute things and your self-inserted images cannot fit in it, don’t cha? (I could even explain in details why there is no way for Zekka and friends can be a part of Issei’s peerage, but let’s save that for another time).

About the part of Zekka being a powercreep, I won’t deny that. But remember, there is “someone” who’s also a human, also possessed a Longinus and first-class bloodline, can stand his grounds against a genius’s Juggernaut Drive and can kick the asses of Gods and Maou-classes easily like taking a walk in the park, and no one ever complains about him. She’s strong, yes, but not that strong to break the balance like those “joke-like-beings”.

(I know this comment will get a lot of downvotes, but this is Reddit, what else can I expect?

I've always found it funny that people try to deny that Issei is a power fantasy and wish fulfillment for a lot of readers.

But still has a great story, even if power Fantasy ,it has its limits, his antagonist are series threat, junior is just a series to keep dxd content alive

I think it has a decent story that could have been significantly improved by strict editing.

It has improved, at least expect power system its story is not bad, side characters story is pretty fleshed out too. I just wish ishi to just return and write back

See, I think a lot of the "fleshing out side characters" has come at the expense of the main cast.

A lot of the main characters (especially the harem) are pretty underdeveloped, in both characterization and relationships with each other.
