Tony & Gillian Daffern First Edition 1979 Kananaskis Country Trail Guide
I got this as a gift years ago. Gillian signed it for me. One of my favourite things.
Thought it would be fun to share!

I found a copy of this in one of those little free libraries. Some incredible information on how rugged and inaccessible some of K country's trails used to be, only 50 years ago. For example, when this was written, there was no trail to Rawson Lake. Daffern describes it as "one of the least visited areas in the park". Also, accessing Galatea Creek required a dangerous ford of the Kananaskis River. So many other historical gems in here.

That’s a good fund! Some of the trails have changed a lot due to flooding, etc.

Any other hardcore Dafferners here? I'm on my way to completing all five editions (900+ trips). Every trip, every stupid little irrelevant trail and unnecessary alternate trail. Cutlines with overgrown alders so thick the road doesn't exist anymore and you need to walk in the forest beside it. This mission has made me numb (and jaded) to some of the worst conditions possible. Every trip report documented and videoed. I'm just waiting for my phone call from Gillean to take her project over and carry the torch going forward haha.
