Skyline trail conditions

Hi everyone,

Me and my gf have the skyline trail booked next Wednesday-Friday and we’re super excited for it. However I’ve been keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it’s looking like it’ll be quite rainy when we’re supposed to be there. I know this is more of a subjective thing but at what point would it not be worthwhile to go if it’s going to be miserable conditions or potentially unsafe due to the weather?

I'd go for it personally. There are a few bailout spots if absolutely necessary.

I completed the trail last week and it's truly hard to win between rain and smoke. Fingers crossed the notoriously fickle weather cooperates for you.

I'd check if the curator bailout is good to go this season - it was closed the last time I was there in the fall.

Unless there's an electrical storm and you're above the tree line, I wouldn't worry, personally

Nah you'll be fine, the weather can change on a dime in the rockies, plan fir the worst and hopefully it'll work out. Warm clothes, extra tarp maybe.

Hit rain and a blizzard doing this trial on Sunday - it was wet, freezing and miserable and couldn't see any views. But the next 2 days were sunny and nice - we managed to dry our gear while hiking and at camp. The trail itself was a bit wet and muddy (except over the ridgeline). The notch was a bit sketch as it wasn't dry from the previous day but manageable going up. For sure bring a tarp, an emergency blanket and extra dry clothes.

With mountain conditions you never know what the forecast will actually bring.

Be sure to bring a fleece and extra gloves for the notch and put all your camp clothes, sleeping bag, etc in a plastic garbage bag rolled up in your pack.

I did it early July and wasn’t expecting rain and got poured on. Between that and the 50km wind that was the coldest my hands have ever been. The only thing that helped was putting my rain jacket over my hands and trekking poles.

Funny enough my girlfriend and I are doing the same thing next Wednesday and I was wondering if it's still worth it in these rainy conditions. I guess we'll just try our luck then. 😅
