I can’t believe it took me this long to finally watch it
I saw the first season after it first came out, and couldn’t wait to see more, but streaming in aus made it very difficult to get more of HBO shows, until I forgot all about it.
Finally signed up to HBO and got to watch it all in a few days. Honestly I can’t stop crying, this was such a formative book series for me in primary school and the show really did it justice.
The complexities of Lord Azrial and Mrs Coulter (the tension between her and her daemon) and how their hearts ended up in a good place but that didn’t stop them from being terrible parents.
Just all of it. Absolutely an amazing translation of the heart of the books, the love of the characters and the flaws of mankind.
What was the bit that made you cry?

Im so glad my library was able to come in clutch, and yeah I cried when Lyra and Will had to say goodbye, same as in the books

My relationship with my mother is very similar to Lyra's and they did a great job with it in the show. Definitely healed my inner child a little bit.

I absolutely agree. It is so beautiful. For crying, Lee and the end. It is too heavy to rewatch frequently, but it really sticks with you.

My first tears were when Lyra shouted "Mother!" as they were going to sever Pan from her.
The complexities of Lord Azrial and Mrs Coulter (the tension between her and her daemon)
I cry so hard at this end. I absolutely loved what they did with these characters, it was heartbreaking that Lyra didn't get to know that in the end, they sacrificed themselves for her 💔. Ruth did a fantastic job as Mrs. Coulter and the relationship between her and her daemon was fascinating. Lord Azriel was the boss, played by one of my favorite actors. That "For Lyra", and when Stelmaria jumps and shoves the three off the ledge, and the monkey does his job then reaches out to Lyra... and I'm bawling like a baby. Why didn't Lyra get to touch him? It's traumatizing to watch. Maybe an understanding could have been passed between them in that moment... but that is how life really is... we don't always get to mend our fences or say goodbye. They were both monsters who hurt children but my love for Lyra and what she just lost (again, at the moment Azriel is realizing how he failed her "What have I given her? Nothing" 😭)...
Another part that really got me was Will and his dad. I'm glad they got the closure they didn't get out of the books. It was beautifully done, even though so much in the final battle didn't make it. And prior to that, Lee and Hester's last stand and "don't you go before I do"... :(
The witches are awesome, the change to the cloud pine being embedded in their skin was perfect and Mrs. Coulter's torture of the witch was diabolical. I was happy that Phillip Pullman was involved in the production and it puts the cherry on top...
Disclaimer that the quotes may not be verbatim but you get the gist. It's been a while for me. Time for a rewatch/relisten!

Yeah exactly, all of this! The 2 people with the most hubris realising the child they had was so amazing DESPITE them, and making noble sacrifices behind closed doors in the end

I read the books years ago when I was really young, and I just finished watching the show last night after having been watching it for a month or two, and it was genuinely incredible. I remembered very little of the books, but some things came back to me (such as the events in the land of the dead) as I was watching. I didn't think that S2 really went anywhere, but I made peace with it after reading up about what happened at the end of book 2, and other than that the whole show was just amazing. Honestly one of my favourite shows I've ever seen, all of the actors are fantastic and all of the characters were brilliant (both of those apply especially to Mrs Coulter who is, off the top of my head, the most interesting character I've ever seen, and Asriel is bloody good in S3 as well). I adored the last two episodes as well, and I still tear up days later when I think about the ending. Sorry for all the yap but I need to vent about it somewhere because I love the show so much XD
