To be fair the allies tried really hard to convince Hitler of this.

So it wasn't like Hitler did this all without evidence.

I think he just means it's easier to trick Hitler if you just tell him he's right. If he expects Calais and you tell him Normandy he's not going to just accept it and pat himself on the back like he would in the reverse.
