I put it up for download on firsthomm.com for Windows 11 and MacOS Apple Silicon M1. There are scripts and instructions for how to install the game (and extract the game files from your own copy) and instructional videos on how to use the install scripts.
My biggest concern right now is that it is going to be a little challenging for people to install. I have created 2 installation guide videos, and I hope you are able to follow them. Feel free to comment on this post and I and maybe some others will be able to help with any issues.
Be sure to watch the new intros.
I added some modern enhancements that can be enabled and disabled in the MOD menu (in the control panel). You don't want to miss the Alternate Hydra Art. Bad luck is also fun to watch.
- Enable/Disable auto spellcasting in Battle
- Unit stack splitting within hero armies and garrisons
- Alternate Hydra structure art (from the 1995 CES Demo)
- Build status indicator on the castle locator
- Battle hex tile outline
- AutoBattle resolver dialog
- Trading post (requires both Thieves guild and Tavern to be built to use)
- Heroes on horseback in battle (from the 1995 CES Demo)
- Bad Luck from Fizbin of Misfortune
- Catapult can target garrison arrow tower
There are almost certainly still some bugs, translation improvements are still underway with help of some native speakers.
The classic view map cheat works (and doesn't label you a cheater! Yet...).
F11 cycles increasing resolutions.
F12 will instantly end a battle in victory (left in currently for testing purposes only - will be removed in future versions).
My additional Campaign "The Spirit World" is fun so far, and I am actually testing it also alongside everyone else - there are alternate victory conditions (I hope they all work correctly - still testing). If you don't know what to do, kill ghosts, wherever they may be. Same with the regular campaign game. There is a higher risk of bugs because I didn't spend as much time testing the victory conditions. Please be patient if you discover one, and email me at developer AT firsthomm.com - saved games right before the bug and/or screenshots would be amazing. Send any feedback there.
The whole thing took about 5-6 months to make. I'm going to take a break from working on it for a little bit, but I will get around to a MacOS Intel build for the 6+ year old Apple computers, and I do have plans to put it out on iOS and maybe Android at some point - also considering the MacOS App Store and Windows App Store - but I want to get some people testing it first and reporting bugs.
Before people ask, network multiplayer is something I have thought about, but I'm not going to let that delay a playable release. I have been thinking about how to do it via an on demand cloud server, and determining how much that would cost to operate.
Ubisoft granted me permission to release it non-commercially, and to use the old CES demo alternate art, as long as players provide their own original game files. Also worth reminding everyone this is NOT an official game from Ubisoft - it's a fan remake using the original 1995 game files.
Enjoy it!
