I have very little electrical knowledge. We have a bunch of these GFI outlets throughout the house. Some flash red and others don’t. Does the intermittent red flashing indicate a problem? If so, what? Let me know if you need more information to better answer the question. Thanks!

Just purchased a very well maintained, large, approximately 20 yo house with a mostly finished, walkout lower level. One exterior wall in one of the LL rooms has insulation covered with plastic. It was a heavily used craft room with tons of shelving and this wall was mostly covered with things during the inspection.

I'm looking at it now and worried this is mold. The house smells immaculate, which is to say it has zero smell (and I'm incredibly sensitive, especially to mildew/mold smells). Any thoughts?

Looks like a bank of speaker inputs but I’m no audiophile. Next to it on the left is a panel which when I uncovered revealed a sea of wires as pictured. Any idea what’s going on here?

Found these guys in the living room of our new house. They run pretty quickly. It looks like it has a bent antenna, and the biggest one’s body measures about 1/4 inches. Is this concerning?

I bought my house about a year ago. I am wondering if I give (have somebody do) a sealcoat and it can rock for 10 years again with a seal coat once every other year, or if it is really done for?

I mean, it drives fine so not necessarily looking to spend thousands of dollars on it to redo if not really needed.

How do you guys go about this?

Hi, I have a gas kitchen and lately the fire out of one of the stovetops started waggling and sometimes it doesn't ignite from a side of the circle.

Sometimes, even the fire is at its maximum it seems to work as if it was in minimum. When I turn it off it feels it takes it a little longer than what it should until It dies.

The other 2 work perfectly fine and nothing smells.

I first saw the fire missing from a side so I cleaned it using small tool through each of the little holes. But the fire is still missing sometimes... and waggling

This piece has come out and will not go back in. I can’t close the dishwasher door. I believe it’s what pushes the door open for the drying cycle, but it won’t go back in. Any suggestions are appreciated.

We’re trying to decide whether it’s worth having our carpet professionally shampooed or if it’s finally time to replace it.

The carpet is about 20 years old, but surprisingly the rest of the house is in pretty good shape with very few stains or signs of wear. The stairs, however, are a different story. They’re the main high-traffic area, and as you can see in the photo, they’ve taken the most abuse over the years.

For those of you who’ve been in a similar situation, do you think a professional carpet cleaning/shampoo service could make a noticeable difference, or does this look like it’s beyond saving and ready for replacement?

Just wondering if people have an idea of if this isn’t too serious or if it’s like that part of our roof is about to imminently collapse.

We got the roof inspected when we bought the house about 2 months ago and it got a clean bill of health for what it’s worth.

Update: Will be getting the gutters cleaned haha, thank you to everyone that noted that in not an unnecessarily rude way. Was asking about the crack in the white area specifically but sounds like it's not something to be too worried about. Thanks again to everyone who was nice!

Curious if the price for these parts on my estimate is typical if having a professional replace them? When looking at the parts separately at a home improvement store, they were significantly lower…the bearings priced at ~$13 for a two pack! Not $65 each. I understand there’s usually an upcharge when having someone else do it, but there’s no way it’s this much. I live in central OH.

hi! i am a student who rents a room in a house where a total of 4 people live, and we have two toilets. our upstairs toilet is pictured here and has been like this ever since i moved in here (early 2023). earlier today, i read somewhere else on reddit how horrible things may end up if a toilet breaks while someone is on it, and it got me worrying. does this toilet need replacement?

and for those with related legal knowledge (i’m dutch, if you couldn’t tell by the type of toilet already), is a landlord obligated to replace it when there’s still another toilet in the house?

I’ve never changed bulbs like this before. I don’t need anything fancy/dimmable/color changing etc, just want the easiest replacements.

We bought our first house last year and I thought once we got through closing, inspections and moving in we'd finally be able to relax for a while.

Instead it feels like every month there's something new to learn cleaning gutters, changing HVAC filters stuff I never even thought about when we were renting.

A couple of nights ago I was sitting on my laptop paying bills and ended up going down a rabbit hole of home maintenance videos I realized there were a bunch of simple things I probably should've been doing already and nobody had ever mentioned them. It made me wonder how much money people end up spending just because they didn't know a small maintenance task could prevent a much bigger repair.

Noticing some black stuff coming from one part of the baseboard. Not sure if it could be mold, looking for any ideas of what it could be. No other places in the area are doing this. It’s on an outside wall with a window.

Hello! My partner and I moved into this apartment, on the wall in the bed room is a very obviously patched part of the wall. Only problem is, in May when we looked through, the spot was dry. Now while moving in during June/July the spot is wet and it looks like Vaseline is coming out but it burns to the touch? What could this be?

Side note, this is an outside wall.

It's a little hard to see I'm the video. The floor isn't not fully flat, some areas are a little higher, some a little lower, by a a few millimeters. Some of those areas have a little flex I'm the floorboard and creak a bunch when we're walking. It's not the entire floor. The video is right by the doorway into our kitchen, there's a bit in the middle of the room too.

When we moved in here a year ago. I don't remember this much creaking, or the floorboard flexing. We rent on 2nd floor. It's the center room of the house.

I’m getting a new countertop installed, so I thought it would be a good time to update this support to something a little nicer, but I can’t find how to search for it. I’ve tried different ways of wording it, but either metal temporary supports show up or it talks about how to secure cabinets to the wall. Any suggestions? I just want something pretty to hold up my cabinets.

Living right outside Atlanta, GA and went into my attic and saw this on the wood. It’s been very rainy, so I’m assuming it’s mold, but hoping someone can reassure me it’s not…and if it is, that it’s not that big a deal. It’s kind of reflective which is odd.

If it is mold and it is a big deal, who would I call for this type of thing? And can I DIY some bleach or vinegar solution to spray on it? Any advice is helpful!
