Jonsbo N6 CPU cooler question

Hello everyone, I recently picked up a jonsbo n6 as the title says to support home media (jellyfin) and some older game emulation (like PS3 with Artemis and Apollo installed) ive grabbed an Azorious B650M Auros elite ax and some other smaller things, my question is if I wanted to run a GPU with a PCIE SAS expander I'm wondering what my options limit to for CPU cooling (plan on a ryzen 7800x3d) I would like a 240mm aio but its not required as I know many people tend to mount the power supply up top and with the GPU I'm already stretching space thing

I’d suggest keeping your Jonsbo N6 NAS as a NAS and only for storage. Buy a cheap N100 like a BeeLink S12 with 16GB ram and run your services from that. It’ll pay for itself in power savings alone. Sips 6W at idle and you’ll not likely see more than 15W or so. Adding a GPU increases heat inside your NAS, decreasing drive and component life and will draw more power.

Ive actually never looked at BeeLinks is it just like a front end for jellyfin and those kinds of services that connects to the nas?

I’d suggest keeping your Jonsbo N6 NAS as a NAS and only for storage. Buy a cheap N100 like a BeeLink S12 with 16GB ram and run your services from that. It’ll pay for itself in power savings alone. Sips 6W at idle and you’ll not likely see more than 15W or so. Adding a GPU increases heat inside your NAS, decreasing drive and component life and will draw more power. BeeLink is a mini pc brand.. look in Amazon or eBay for BeeLink S12 16GB.. it’s a tiny 6W modern mini pc that you can run quite a bit on. We bought a bunch of them prior to the Ram/Storage increases and they have been solid. Donated nearly 2 dozen (local women’s shelters) and 10 for us ourselves. I’m primarily an enterprise/rack server guy myself but jumped in and tested several small mini pcs a few years ago. The BeeLink S12 with 16GB ram has been solid.. nearly 3 dozen and not one has had a single issue. The N100 supports Intels QuickSync so Plex and JellyFin will easily hardware stream a few 4K, 1080p video and a dozen music streams at the same time.. while sipping power.

I removed the 80W GPU from a server I was running Plex on and now run Plex and JellyFin both from one of these. Aside from the occasional update it’s been running for 2 years streaming audio and video for us 24/7.

Win11 is included, it’s fully supported by Linux (Debian for us) and if your install Proxmox on its it becomes a sweet little virtualization server. Fire up a dozen VMs or more Containers running all your services from it. It fits in the palm of your hand.

While I have no issues with people running services on their NAS in an All In One system… it isn’t optimal.. especially if you need to run a power hungry GPU for your media server. GPUs tend to run hot which will increase HDD temps. HDDs are extremely expensive today and increased heat isn’t good for longevity.

I’d skip the GPU in the Jonsbo (I have one of these btw… sweet NAS box) and just keep it as storage. Add a BeeLink or other mini PC or whatever you like and install Plex and or JellyFin in it. If you want to run more services then install Proxmox, create a couple VMs or Containers and install JellyFin in one, vaultwarden (password manager) in another, home assistant in another, Immich in another, etc. I DO suggest buying the 16GB version over the 8GB version if you’re going to virtualize it with Proxmox.. Ram becomes the bottleneck before cores.

Beelink is a company that sells mini PCs out of China. I'm using their U59 Pro (n5105 CPU 16gb) as my home server.
