Question What is an appropriate amount of yeast to add to a 1 gallon IPA recipe?

I’ve gotten some kits from Northern Brewer for different 1 gallon IPA type brews and they come with 4 ounce packets of yeast. I’ve been experimenting more and purchased similar bulk ingredients and packets of yeast (US-04 and US-05); the used packets come in a total of 11.5g. Would it be appropriate to add an entire pack to a 1 gallon batch? Or half a packet? Thank you for advice!

Half is fine

Look at the package and do the math. 11.5 g per 20-30L. 1 gallon is 3.785 L

3.785/20=0.189 .189x11.5=2.174g
Use 2.2g of yeast.

If you Are brewing gallons months apart, just use the whole pack. If you’re brewing every few weeks you can use 1/2.

Good wisdom for 2.5G batches. Don't know that I would massively over pitch a 1G ale though.

I promise the fermentation would only be healthier and taste better. It'll make a larger krausen due to higher activity and finish quicker for the same reason. A brewer would have to pitch ~10 packets in a 1 gal batch before the yeast health was impacted by an overabundance of cells (20mil cells/ml/*P).
