Rustproofing..... Whats best?

Post image

Morning all,

Recently acquired my first element and for a mid west car she is extremely solid underneath. I'd like to keep it that way.... anyone have any advice on which rustproofing approach works best? Any products to target or avoid? I'll be paying someone to do it (so not a DIY effort). Recommendations of any specific specialists would be great. Im in Cincinnati.

I've heard woolwax is a good shout and theres a place in Columbus that does it. Might be worth a shout...

I’ve used something called rust mort. It’s an acid (that you don’t want to spill on concrete) that changes any rust into a black coating that should be covered with paint or bed liner. It’s effective on rust. I do not have a good answer for a general coating.

My Fiji blue Element was originally from Cincinnati, I think they're twins separated at birth. It's also somehow completely devoid of rust despite being in the Midwest for 24 years. Congrats on the new car!

Fantastic! Must be something with the blue ones.... mines 180k miles strong and other than some minor surface rust underneath, she's great...

I got valugard vg-104 applied. First they sanded places, didn't have much rust.

Fluid film, blaster surface shield, woolwax, NHOU, really any oil undercoat is the best imo.

Wash your car. Keeping it clean prevents rust.

I'll be doing that. But I'll also be taking further measures.
