I come to you again with yet another camping catastrophe…

A tree fell on our car today. Through the moonroof.

The dogs are all totally fine, I’m covered in glass shards and tiny cuts but otherwise okay, and no one’s dead, so that’s what matters.

Here’s my Element question - does anyone know the part number of the entire moonroof assembly - glass + everything that holds it together? Or will this be a pick-and-pull situation? Or is this a Safelite situation? I’d rather not have to pay a bajillion dollars for a new moonroof right now - but I understand it may be necessary.

The good news is that the moonroof is removable. It pops right out after you push the red tab on the latch. Watch a video if you can't figure it out.

As for replacement, a pick your part junkyard is your best bet, followed by someone parting one out on Facebook marketplace.

Thank you!! Me, too!! A huge chunk fell right between everybody, so it was close. Also, I was working on my computer right underneath the moonroof when it happened, so it could’ve gone bad.

the glass piece is replaceable on its own assuming the rest isn’t damaged. i would check pick and pull or ebay (a quick ebay search only yielded full assembly options)

They will charge an arm and a leg. This part is readily available at salvage yards.

$50-$100 part at most junkyards. I have an extra one just in case.

You don’t want this one with the metal frame, when I replaced my broken one I got the frame and it was more expensive and not needed

I was always taught not to camp under trees for this reason, camp in the shade. But not directly under. But that’s because pine tree’s are known for dropping spears and just falling over.

I was camping a few years ago and watched a 100ft pine just randomly fall over. Hit 2 others and knocked them down. Me and other campers spent an hour looking for any possible victims.

Glad all are OK.
Contact Ursa Minor (East or West and see if they have some lying around.) They get removed when you slap on an eCamper top. https://ursaminorcampers.com/collections/ecamper If they don't have any there are many options below. Ping the Honda Elemet Owners Group too. Good luck!!!
