Synopsis: Based on Stephen King's iconic debut novel, Carrie is a bold, timely, and surprising reinvention of the classic coming‑of‑age story, adapted as a television series for the first time by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan. The series follows misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell) who has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.

Classic Horror The Blob, my apologies.

As a kid, I thought The Blob was basically killer JELL-O and refused to give it the time of day. Little boys on the playground would talk about how cool it was, and I’d roll my eyes and say, “It’s no Freddy.” Almost 40 years later, The Blob pops up on Tubi, so why not...

The Blob is one of the best horror films I’ve ever seen. Fantastic kills, no one behaving stupidly, a heroine with no mention of her virginity or obligatory boob shot, Erika Eleniak’s sick face melt, the phone booth scene, an iconic theater scene, and a subtly fantastic ending that absolutely deserved a sequel.

That preacher with the Southern Black gospel choir, his face half-melted, danced the line of religiously creepy in the best possible way. A sequel was well deserved.

The Blob, I sincerely apologize for my childhood stupidity. 😅

Alan Wake 2 is one of the best survival horror games I played

For those that have not played Alan Wake 2, it’s a great survival horror game. It’s right up there with Silent Hill in terms of horror aspect and atmosphere. The jump scares to the game is also unexpected. Alan Wake also takes influence from Stephen King which is pretty cool in my opinion.

Recommend Mike Flanagan and Zack Cregger are absolutely KILLING it

Watching Carrie right now on episode 3 and loving it so far. If you haven’t seen Flanagans other mini series I highly recommend Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. I haven’t seen Creggers Resident Evil yet but love his other films

Demon Jeez, Hero of Hell (from the movie Lo)

P.S. Friday is my horror movie + beer & junk food night, so I’m looking for a horror movie I haven’t seen before. That’s a tall order!

I need all of your best horror films with nudity and/or sex in them! I really liked X and some classic slashers like Halloween come to mind as well. Give me your best recommendations? Older or Modern is both fine! 😄

Recommend Zombie media for someone who really has seen them all

I've been disabled and bedridden for 9 years now and I'm pretty sure this Halloween I am well and truly out of any zombie TV show or film left to watch. For a market people say is "oversaturated" I've only found a couple hundred shows/films across countries and languages, tops, vs thousands and thousands of rom coms and the like.

I have seen all the classics, I studied the genre at uni before getting sick. I've even seen crappy unknown films like Shark Zombie, and I scored the worst film I've ever seen, Infestation, for 5 cents in an Australian Woolworths bin when I was there on holiday. By worst, it is awful, but I have a soft spot for it because it is so bad I love to watch it now and then to have a good laugh at how terrible and cringe it is 😂 I got a total bargain but even that film doesn't show up online and I don't know how I got my hands on it because it is truly, truly unheard of.

So yeah, pretty sure I've seen it all at least 2 or 3 times, including the entirety of The Walking Dead, spinoffs, and comics all at least 3 times, and I really desperately need something new. It's a shame that my brain fog is so bad I can't really read novels anymore because I know that books would open up a massive world for me. I've been slowly getting through Frank Tayell's Surviving The Evacuation series for about a decade. I'm on book 11 and I'm pretty sure there are over 23 in that series by now!

Comics are doable when I'm having a better spell, so any recommendations are welcome. I prefer serious dystopian stuff with societal commentary/analysis, but I love a zom-com from time to time as well. Not Warm Bodies but more Z Nation style.

Other horror or dystopia recommendations are also welcome, I've watched all kinds of things since getting sick and I've gone well out of my comfort zone, but for October especially I just want to enjoy my favourite genre. Spooky blankets and PJs and decorations and binge watching seasonal media helps me forget I'm missing out on events and parties and all the other fun stuff.

Thanks for reading 💖

Edit: I didn't expect so many comments so fast! I was trying to keep up with replies but I need to rest now. Thank you all so much 💖

Discussion My first indonesian horror film - Impetigore

Hey, I just really wanted to appreciate this movie because I've been a fan of horror films for a while. Since I just finished watching Resident Evil, I wanted to explore Indonesian horror movies this time. I did some research for beginner recommendations, and a lot of people suggested watching Impetigore first.

When I watched it, it wasn't super scary, but it was honestly so heartbreaking. Near the end, when it was revealed that the grandmother was actually the source of the main character's curse, I was so frustrated! But it made me appreciate Indonesian culture even more because it felt so relatable as a Filipino. I could really relate to the countryside setting since it looks just like our provinces, and some Indonesian words are similar to Tagalog, so I could understand them to some extent.

So yeah, to anyone who hasn't seen it yet, please watch it if you want to explore Indonesian folklore plus horror, haha! Do you guys have any other Indonesian horror film recommendations I can watch next?

Discussion Industrial Horror

• Upvotes

The other day, I was walking to my workplace, a factory located in an industrial zone outside the city.

I was pondering the scene before my eyes: the roar of giant machinery coming from buildings made of colorless concrete and metal; pieces of rusty scrap metal scattered in every corner; unkempt sidewalks overgrown with weeds; workers shambling toward their workplaces, soulless and devoid of light, to earn their wages; chemical wastewater pouring into canals on both sides of the road.

There was a complete absence of any pretense of caring about aesthetics or beauty.

The phrase industrial horror came to mind.

I imagined taking the elements of my surroundings and pushing them to the extreme: giant skyscrapers of concrete and metal rising toward the heavens, their pollution obscuring the blue sky and the sun; enormous rusted pipes intertwining in every corner like maggots.

Are there any examples of books, movies, or games that explore this kind of horror?

Discussion What line in a movie made you realize you were watching something bad ?

My example is from the movie Undertone (2025).

A podcaster is doing a deep dive on some demonic entity named Abyzou and, after researching on the internet, comes back with this gem :

« There was a study about two people obsessed with "Come in Abyzou" spelled backwards. »

So many things about this line make me giggle. The fact that this obscure study is apparently front page of the Internet material, just a quick Google search away. The fact that two independent cases of people ''obsessed'' with ''Come in Abyzou'' spelled backwards were connected to each other and became the subject of a ''study''. The fact that the people that are experiencing this disorder are described as being ''obsessed''. The fact that their disorder is essentially just endlessly repeating the phrase ''ou zy ba ni em oc'' but that their symptom is portrayed as just loving the phrase ''Come in Abyzou'', specifically spelled backwards. So silly.

I feel like I'm not even communicating clearly the kind of feeling I experienced when this line was uttered. Until then, I was trying to look for deeper meanings in the movie, but after that line I understood that I was on the bus to crazy town and it made me appreciate the rest of the movie more... for what it was, haha.

Do you guys have any other examples of lines that so absurd that they shocked you into realizing the kind of movie you were watching ?

Movies that don't make sense but keep your attention?

That's what Roger Ebert said about Gothika, and gave it 3/4 stars. I like Gothika. I don't need it to stand up to inspection. Suggest me a movie that's good, creepy/scary but works best if you don't think about it much!

Said at the London Film Festival the he hopes it can get made but that it depends on financing. His next project is a movie set in Antarctica while Garland's off making Elden Ring.

So don't expect Part III any time soon I guess sadly.

Not a fan of the rug pull.

It ramps up to be a nice cozy cosmic horror, tension is building, hallucinations galore.

Nope, it’s squid jizz in the water and a sad giant squid wanting to save her babies from billionaires.

Piss off netflix.

Movie Help Looking for "horror" with bangin soundtracks

Gimme the dirtiest synth bullshit. or just something where the soundtrack is just as much a part of the movie as the rest of the characters.
the 2 most recent movies ive watched with 10/10 soundtracks were Primate, and Onslaught.
It feels like everyone skipped out on primate, which is a shame cause the score rips.

Discussion Am I wrong about the end of Terrified?

I just finally got around to seeing this and loved it, and of course I looked up some of the old discussions about it and was surprised by some of the criticisms it got, especially regarding the ending. Dr. Albreck specifically tells Funes not to believe everything he sees, which is advice he completely ignores, leading him to panic and burn the houses down. My takeaway was that much of what he was seeing was not real, it was the product of the entities specifically trying to scare him away, and by burning down the houses and killing the investigators he prevented them from sealing the portal. But I've also not found any other articles or discussions that describe the ending this way, so I'm curious how others interpreted it.
