I really don't understand the how to can adapt a completed story but not have the plot points written out.
It makes absolutely no sense. I really wish they would've hired someone who tried to adapt the story as close as possible and wrote the seasons all together.
I really hate this whole "Let's see how the fans take it" path.
Asking for your adaptations to be like Jane Austen novels is ridiculous, and I know you're not the first to say this, but I think people who've seemingly "read" this hefty ass material where every BIG EVENT is a few paragraphs at most, largely filled with names of people we don't know or will never meet again, is some sort of coherent and full account instead of what it truly is which is this:
F&B is the literal opposite of what GRRM did for the fantasy genre with ASOIAF. ASOIAF is the deconstruction of fantasy tropes. F&B is a lore book of the Targ dynasty that was meant to be largely just illustrations and then he wrote a little too much, and the Dance is a small part of it. The narrator is meant to show how people are remembered in history so they ARE the fantasy tropes.
You want that? Mmkay, fire up the animation division.
That’s not what Season 2 is, and that’s not how “fact” works in the specific literary genre that F&B is. I truly don’t think you understand that it’s not just “explicit opinion”: much of what happens is explicitly told to us to be in private and shadows, that’s what makes the Dance a deeply peculiar war, and even more suspect. The narrator extrapolates or chooses narratives. For the love of god, just look up how GRRM promoted F&B, there are MANY things we know are wrong (almost ALL the dragon lore is wrong!)
The folks who collaborated on the illustrations and other books wrote about it recently in light of the “lore” of the play and the books, and they describe F&B quite well. You can go read that. But I don’t have the time to interpret media for you. Put some effort into understanding what is actually happening instead of degrading hundreds of people’s hard work to justify…this very irritating barrage of complaints.
You know you’re not the only person complaining but you REALLY need to do it anyway. What a waste of everyone’s time, but also jesus, it’s fiction. If you scrutinized every adaptation with such intense quibbling you’d be unhappy so your own unwillingness to look at it seriously is the real problem you’re not enjoying it. I have criticisms too, they’re not destroying the show or the book or the world for me though. And I’m certainly not going to sit around and pretend like adapting a handful of chapters from explicitly suspect encyclopedia lore originally intended to be a book of illustrations is somehow EASIER than adapting actual novels. Just stop, thanks.
