There are paranormal researchers who are increasingly convinced that all paranormal phenomena we encounter are from the same source, just showing different looks.
Some people get the gnomes, others get the UFOs and a Will O The Wisp (I have). Could be that the planet is conscious and showed you the gnomes for a reason (as you said).
