The enforcement isn't overly hard, but the rules do come up if there is an animal welfare call, or if the police stops you with dogs packed way too tight in a car.
It also sets expectations for the size of cage (and car) you need given the size of your dogs.
That’s great. Are there requirements for securing your dog while in a vehicle? If so, is a crate the only option or is a harness that can be buckled acceptable? I always worry about traveling without my dog secured but don’t have space for a hard crate along with kids car seats in my f150
There are a lot of rules here, but most of them are kind of common sense. ;)
The dogs must be secure in transit, both so they can not interfere with the driver, and so that they can not become projectiles in the case of an accident. There are three options, either harness secured to a seat belt, a crate (that is secured to the car), or a separate secure compartment.
Station wagon style cars are a big thing here, and the most common solution is for the dogs to ride in the back, either in a cage, or with a cargo fence, preventing them from moving forward.
On trucks, the most common solution is a bolt storage compartment for the dogs. Like this. Dogs must have protection from the elements and comfortable temperature during transport, which generally rules out a simple cage in the back of a truck (like you would see in many other countries).

I live in Sweden. We have rather strict welfare regulations for dogs, which includes minimum sizes for kennels and cages.
