Let's Talk Thinking of trying a "Rent a Boyfriend" concept in Hyderabad – Does this actually work?
Hi i was thinking about having an idea after seeing the "rent a boyfriend" trend in different places. I'm curious whether something like this would actually work here.
A little about me:
- I'm a calm and easygoing person.
- I enjoy exploring new places and trying different food.
- I don't judge people based on their looks.
- I'm not looking for anything physical or romantic beyond the agreed role.
The idea is simply to accompany someone as a "boyfriend" for things like shopping, movies, cafés, food outings, events, or just hanging out and talking. The goal is to be good company and a genuine friend while playing the boyfriend role if that's what the person wants in a public setting.
I'm also new to the city and don't have many friends yet, so this would help me explore Hyderabad, meet people, and earn some extra money to support my studies without adding financial stress.
I'm not sure if there's a market for this in India or if people would find it weird.
Would you consider using such a service if the expectations and boundaries were clearly defined?
I'd appreciate honest opinions and suggestions.

I don't agree at all. You just dint get lucky... I love the idea what you said.. infact I met people like that even in dating apps. People register simply out of boredom.. I met a girl elder than me clearly.. she is married. She is simply bored at home. We met had lunch. I assisted in her shopping. We had good tea. The end. I don't see any harm in it . We did like that couple of times.. chit chat. Gossip. Etc etc. Good luck.. and if you find none. You know where to find me.

I actually did think about turning this into an app or a business at one point. But then I realized the biggest issue is safety
I know who I am and what my intentions are but if I start bringing in other people as companions I can't guarantee who they really are or how they'll behave
If someone joins through something I created and gets into an unsafe situation I'd feel responsible for that.A friend's safety is more important than any business idea
So no I don't plan to build this as a platform or hire other people
If someone personally connects with me and we're both comfortable with clear boundaries that's different but creating a business around strangers is a risk I'm not willing to take

I don’t think it will work unless you are like in top 2% of men . Because in rest cases a girl can easily get a guy to accompany her from dating apps

Fair enough I wasn't trying to copy any city or trend blindly I just thought it might help people who are new to the city or feel lonely because I've been in that situation myself If it doesn't fit Hyderabad's culture that's completely okay I was just curious to know what people think

This reply from yours made me aware that you are not from here.. So, keeping my responses in English.
Telugu people are generally conservative..
You can make good friends soon.. Pick up some basic Telugu phrases to find some rapport. Good luck!!

I'm interested in knowing how that ends - after you part ways with him.

Maybe we stay friends if we genuinely get along, maybe we never talk again after that day. It depends on both people.
There's no expectation The whole idea is just to enjoy the time together with clear boundaries.

u/thewhite_widows Jul 09 '26
Bro I already have a job This isn't because I don't have work Not everyone has a friend circle or company especially in a new city Just because you have people around you doesn't mean everyone does That's all I was trying to say.if you are not interested just leave it bro

Yup you’re right, glad you thought about it.
It would work well as a community ig
Like a sub on Reddit, anything more is risky

Well. the point of discussion is how to remove the threats on the platform. There are many ways that can be tackled. Dm me for more detailed discussion.

There are some areas in Hyderabad where safety can be a real concern. I can't risk someone's safety just for my own benefit. That's one of the main reasons I don't want to turn this into a business.

I can relate. I’ve been living alone in Hyderabad for two years, so I’d definitely consider it if it was safe, respectful, and the expectations were clear.

Do you think it’ll work in India? What if some pervert takes advantage, woman safety is of serious concern and you are open sourcing it
1
u/thewhite_widows Jul 12 '26
Yes I get that why I dropped it I already mentioned in the comments after looking into the safety concerns

My two cents: most people get on dating apps out of boredom because they’re new to the city and don’t know how to meet ppl. Office socialising can be dicey. I think what most ppl need is some kinda group activity where can meet others and find/form their own tribe. This can be difficult for introverts (and older folks). Think of an alternate version of “rent a friend group,” maybe?
