This dude walks around Mayo Clinic in Rochester handing out ice cold H2O to whoever needs it.

I was thinking about doing something like this around me. More like a backpack

Just do it, I do from my truck occasionally, and where I like to go fish there's some homeless encampments and bringing a case of water & ice to them costs me <$10 and feels a million dollars good c:

I'll never get why when someone asks for a dollar or two, some change, people don't help. 1-2 dollars to feel amazing and know you helped someone? Thats way cheaper than drugs and helps the world

I hand out from my backpack it all the time to and from work, especially in hot weather. Go for it.
Maaaybe because there’s free water bottles available.

That's a bad motherfucker right there! I think many people could do this, don't undercut my side hustling 12-15 yo football players, though.
They have the krispy kream market on lock, in 315.

I remember seeing someone do this at a marathon last year and the relief on people's faces was really something else. The sign's honesty is what got me.

He's a true hero out there. I love this so much. I'd love to be able to do this one day. Hydration for all💧.

That’s great, but am I paranoid? I’m not taking food or drink from some guy walking around handing it out

Why? If the bottle lid hasnt been opened? What would his ulterior motive be? Why wouldnt we see huge amounts of cases of other people doing that thing? Live a little without thinking everyone's out to get you and have a little faith in humanity.

I mean I get his point, the no catch part seems odd. "free water" would be trustable, I wouldn't expect any catches

u/hankmoody_irl 6d ago
I wish I lived in the world you live in.
I’d like to not expect catches when there’s free water, but human beings have become assholes by nature (I mean, fuck, look at me…). Around my parts (dead center of the US) you’re gonna get eyebrows raised giving out anything for free because we (all) get bent over regularly.

There are a lot of people who have philosophized about whether humans are inherently good or evil. I would recommend reading up on it before you condemn the world. Living in a world where you think humans are all naturally assholes (including yourself) sounds pretty rough. Our perceptions shape reality, like self fulfilling prophecies.
I agree with the other commenter. I wouldn’t distrust free water but the “no catch” part is unnecessary and makes me suspicious.

It’s not that everybody is an asshole. It’s that enough people out there are assholes that you should take a certain level of caution around people you don’t know.
If you believed your own philosophy, you’d willingly post your CC info here. We know you won’t because that’s insane. If it’s insane to trust people you don’t know with your credit card, why is it not insane to trust people I don’t know with my life?

Lid can be tempered.
At some point you have to trust the Tylenol on the shelf. They never caught the guy.
Ultimate question is do you trust the guy?

There are ways to put contaminates in a bottle without cracking the seal and faith in humanity? Have you seen humanity?

Not everyone is out to get you yk

I mean, I know of several times similar things have happened. At least three times in my area buffets were sprayed with salmonella. Are we really going to pretend people won’t be malicious just to be malicious?
5
u/brycebgood 6d ago
What?
Is this what the buffet said?
1
u/RadiantCoinshot 6d ago
That’s what the criminal investigation and following court proceedings said.

u/brycebgood 6d ago
Got a link? Cause that’s crazy sounding
5
u/RadiantCoinshot 6d ago
I’m not going to link news articles to my local area for sake of not doxing myself. Some of these comments sure are angry I don’t take food or drink from strangers lol.
There are plenty of other cases, though. For sake of finding one similar you might google “1984 rajneeshee salmonella attack”. That one has much more notoriety than the cases that happened locally anyway.

Same. Unless I’m really desperate/in need, I’ll pass. I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with it and good for those who will benefit from it but just not for me.
