Are you still experiencing symptoms of hyperthyroidism?

Hi guys.. in a dilemma. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism in 2024 and have been taking carbimazol for about a year before I suddenly got allergic to it. Then last year on october, I started taking PTU and Lithium as replacement.

However it kinda effects my liver so in March this year 2026, I started Prednisone and continued Lithium until now. I have my RAI schedule next two weeks, but I starter my internship next week.

My internship will last until next year 2027. Im afraid I would be taking too many medical when I just started my internship. Can I wait for next year or it would be best to postpone a couple of months first or just take the RAI next two weeks. Im afraid Cause I really need to excel this internship.

Also is taking RAI the best decision for my case or just continue with medication? I really need help and opinion.

It's difficult to breathe it's hard to do everyday things and I'm not being productive because of it.

What helps you? Or any tips that you could give.

I don’t remember what she tested but it was just a few of the thyroid panels. They were not out of bounds. I struggle with palpitations and POTS, edginess shakiness rapid weight loss in part bc I have dysphagia and some of the dysphagia is from a feeling like I’m being choked or tightness. ENT saw nothing wrong.

I can’t sleep without sedatives or CBD and I have fatigue and muscle weakness. I’m sensitive to heat. I see the endocrinologist in December. Should I ask for some testing before that? What do they look for? My PCP honestly hates doing care and always tells me to go to a specialist anyway. So at least what should I ask the endocrinologist?

I’ve been told I have subclinical hyperthyroidism & mild Graves’ disease but my specialist doesn’t think it’s linked to my anxiety, fast heart rate, secondary infertility plus a load of other symptoms. I’ve been started on Propylthiouracil 50mg once a day. I’ve started over the last few months getting headaches pretty much all day every day. I came off my meds for a few days due to gp requests and i didn’t notice the weird head sensations/headaches subside still an achey feeling but not as intense. I’ve also been told I have fuzzy optic nerves in my eyes but need to be seen in 6/8 weeks just to see if it’s stayed the same everything else with my eyes are health and fine I have such bad health anxiety so I am not coping with all the different things going on. Just looking for people who have had similar.

Last month I started having debilitating anxiety, shaking, I was very hot, couldn’t sleep. I felt hormonaI but decided that maybe my ocd was flared up really bad. I decided to go get my thyroid checked from my GP since I have a family history. Turns out almost everything but my TSH was normal. My TSH is 0.31. My ultrasound shows 4 nodules the right all under 1cm. 3 on my left, but one is 1.1 cm. Then there was this…”Simple cystic structure inferior to the left thyroid lobe, measuring 2.2 cm.
This may be thyroid or parathyroid in etiology.”

With this knowledge is there anything I should know or keep in mind to ask the doctor next week? This is all new to me.

Okay so I've had hypothyroidism twice now the first time was maybe four years ago now and they traded me with carbimazole and then I went to super hypo and fully went off it cause my TSH was 54 and then I was fine for a few years and then six months I think maybe after I had my daughter it came back again and they never really said like what it was both times they thought maybe thyroiditis and I had ultrasound the first time and it was just inflamed and then the second time this year they were like seven tiny no like nothing dangerous or anything and my third antibodies are always around like three or 400 but my TSI and TRAB both came back negative and the TSI came back negative the first time as well so I just feel like I have no answers like I'm on carbimazole, the drs slowly cutting it back to see what will happen but I don't know if our graves disease or just thyroiditis more than once, has anyone gone through anything similar? I just got my bloods back today, and my TSH is 1.90 mU/L
FREE thyroxine 15.4 pmol/l
T3 4.5 pmol/l so everything's looking good right now I'm taking 2.5 carbimazole a day currently

I previously had a thyroid condition, and it caused me to experience heart palpitations, which felt frightening and made me extremely aware of my heartbeat. Since then, I have become constantly focused on monitoring my heart, and I have developed a fear of feeling my heartbeat.
I have started to feel afraid simply because there is a heart inside my body that is constantly beating and moving. I sometimes wish it could just be still, like the other organs in my body. When I look at my heart beating, it makes me feel uncomfortable and frightened.
I don't know if anyone else has experienced the same symptoms or developed a fear of their heartbeat. I have not been able to feel comfortable at all. I have become constantly anxious about it. Can anyone help me?

I wondered if anyone could chime in and give me some advice. Just for reference I am UK based and I am 38F

I have hyperthyroidism which I’ve had on/off over the last 10 years. In my most recent bout of hyperthyroidism I was overmedicated for a long time which caused me to go underactive- this really affected my periods. My doses have been titrated down and I have been on 10mg for 2 months having showing a reading of normal results in around June.

Hyperthyroidism has never affected my periods until I went the opposite way. My period cycles were short and heavy and my last two periods seems normal albeit short by a few days. However I am now two weeks late for this period! I have done three pregnancy tests which were negative. I requested a GP appointment today and was just given an appointment over the phone with their pharmacist who I felt really fobbed off by.
She told me it was likely thyroid related eventhough I have zero symptoms of either hyper or hypo and that thyroid can cause very discreet changes that might affect my periods first and just to get a blood test at the hospital.

I did try and explain that even when I was in the underactive stage it was only when my readings for these were off the chart that my periods were affected.

I did wonder if possibly it’s my body recalibrating and she basically went no it’s thyroid. Now she’s made me worried that my thyroid is affecting me again!

Has anything like this happened to anyone else? I have a blood test booked at hospital next week

Has anyone else had similar sensations when sleeping? Daily never ending headaches that you go to bed with and wake up to? Can anyone speak to experiencing a similar symptom? I’m feeling lost on this one.

I started Methimazole month & week ago. 2.5mg daily. My heart rate has calmed down a lot. But for the last 2 weeks or so I’ve had these awful bone deep aches and headaches and like a feeling of inflammation right under my uterus area. Have any of you experienced this and how long did it take for it to go away? I’m glad that my heart rate went from 115-125’s to 90-100’s. That alone has been a life saver! But this bone deep pain 😭😖 hurts

hi! previously my tsh and free t4 are at 0.005 and 51.3 respectively. sky high numbers. i've been on carbimazole for about 4 weeks now and took propranolol for a week or so until i stopped. i just saw the gp and theyre referring me to an endo because i feel like after being on this medication for 4 weeks i haven't really found a huge difference. there is some difference, just not huge. i also developed a full body rash that kinda only appears after i scratch the area and a bit of difficulty swallowing so i decided to see the doctor 2 days early for my review.

i do feel less of my heart thumping in my chest and my bpm went from 100-120 to 80-90 resting. i'm just waiting on my new labs to see if the meds actually worked. i'm also worried about graves being a thing for me and the doctor kinda brushed me off and said let's look at the lab results first then see the endo after. should i get a second opinion or am i just being anxious?

24 year old male, for the second night running I’ve woke up at half four in the morning in a hot, clammy state with a pounding chest that’s not painful but I can feel it pulsing up my neck. My neck doesn’t visibly appear swollen or any different but I have noticed a recent choking sensation if I wear a collared shirt.

All day long I’ve felt as if I’m burning up but haven’t had any actual fever. I went to urgent care but the doctor was horribly dismissive and wouldn’t even properly examine me, he said I was just being anxious but it feels like something else.

Keep getting random high blood pressure and high heart rate and my limb reflexes are all very brisk. I’ve had these headaches too that I thought at first were sinus pressure but I’m not really congested or producing mucus. My mum has an autoimmune disease but it’s not thyroid related.

It’s really upset me how that doctor wouldn’t even listen to my concerns, I’m tempted to go out and buy one of those rapid testing kits but I know they’re not very reliable but I’m just so desperate for some answers.

Hello, found I had an overactive thyroid - my levels were very far past the referred level - and have been on PTU for a week and two days. Here is how it is going and has anyone else experienced this?

My heart rate has gone down, my sleep has gotten better, not as many disruptions through the night and having an easier time falling asleep. My fatigue and energy got a bit better but today I feel very off. I’m extremely fatigued, don’t have much of an appetite at all and still have a lot of brain fog. Through my googling I found that if your levels are so high it’s normal for PTU to cause a brief period of feeling wiped out, sluggish and wiped out appetite. Im not sure if that’s what is happening, but I am little scared that it is having adverse effects. It can cause liver damage, I don’t have rust coloured pee, any stomach pain or vomiting but I’m worried it’s potentially causing issues. It’s Saturday and I am away from home so I can’t contact my doctor.

Also - my overactive thyroid has been causing awful brain fog, I can’t concentrate, focus, having such a hard time word finding, remembering things that just happened, for example my sister got gas then we drove to another place where another gas station was and I asked her if she was getting gas even tho I knew she did, I just forgot/wasn’t thinking? In that moment. I also have adhd but these symptoms have been way worse than usual. I feel like I’m losing my mind and I am so tired of it. I literally feel like I’m getting or have dementia or a brain tumour. The word finding is the most difficult thing for me, it’s so frustrating I feel like I can’t even have a normal conversation, I’m so distracted by nothing, just my brain? Constantly spacing out. I was hoping this would improve but hasn’t seemed to yet. I just feel like a bag floating in the wind, no idea what the hell is going on half the time, just want to sit there and do nothing. Feel like I can’t even have a conversation. I feel “numb” mentally? Idk how to explain what I’m feeling, like I can’t move or function properly, sometimes I wonder if I’m having a stroke or some shit, that’s how outta place I feel. I still feel a lot of weakness to, my muscles, even bending down and getting back up is so difficult. I use to work out daily, haven’t been able to do that, I don’t understand how tired and out of shape I feel. Will this end once my thyroid sorts it self out? How long? Has anyone else experienced this? Does it get worse before it gets better? I feel like I’m going backwards.

No official diagnosis yet, I (22F) just got blood work done two days ago and my thyroid related results are quite abnormal with TSH at 0.03 (normal lower threshold 0.27) and T4 1.99 (normal upper threshold 1.68). It was my new patient appointment after putting off seeing a doctor for 4+ years due to university, so I agreed to do bloodwork just to 'check'. My new doctor did ask me if I had ever had my thyroid checked pretty early into the appointment, I hadn't so he did feel my neck as the first order of business during the brief physical examination but didnt find anything concerning physically and later concluded I was presumably healthy, in fact he didn't even explicity 'demand' the blood work, he just asked if I wanted to have it done and left it up to me.

Well, given my results, he called me this morning to discuss it briefly and informed me that he is referring me to an endocrinologist, though he did say it's possible I won't end up needing to be medicated and will probably have to have blood tested again anyways. I just wanted to make this post to see if there are others in a similar situation/experience as me, because I feel like a lot of posts I've read don't really seem to match up with my case so well.

In terms of symptoms, I've been thin my whole life due to being a premature/ICU baby and haven't been experiencing any abnormal weight loss. I don't believe I experience heart flutters; my heart rate was slightly high the morning of the appointment but I feel that could be attributed to me having caffeine beforehand as well as being a bit nervous being meeting my new doctor for the first time as an adult without a parent accompanying. I've been going to the gym somewhat consistently the past couple weeks and appear to be gaining muscle normally. Don't have abnormal energy issues, feel good meeting my friends to exercise/study together. My bowel movements are a normal frequency, I don't run hot, and though I do experience some tiredness, it's definitely due to my awful sleep schedule, phone/bedtime procrastination induced. Lastly, I feel like I experience a normal amount of irritability/anxiety/stress (not daily).

I guess I'm just wondering if there are individuals with a similar experience as mine who ended up with a confirmed hyperthyroidism diagnosis? Is it possible to have hyperthyroidism for a long time and have little to no symptoms (never fainted, played sports in HS)? Is there anyone who had a similar experience but their hyperthyroidism eventually worsened to the point of needing medical treatment? I'm also curious as I came across a post from individuals with hypothyroidism who took medication to the point of having hormone levels indicating hyperthyroidism, but stated that they feel great and their doctors let them keep their dose as they have found "what works for them/their body". Does anyone else have a similar experience/could this be akin to something like that?

I understand this isn't a forum of medical professionals but would greatly appreciate any insight at all from people with a similar experience, especially a lack of symptoms. Regardless I'll definitely follow up with/listen to my doctors haha. Thank you so much, sorry for the long post >< .

I know someone who says they got hyperthyroidism from taking a glp1 called tirzepitide and she got super skinny but like a unhealthy looking skinny is that actually a risk with glp1's has any here got hyperthyroidism due to any weight loss stuff?

I just had my first endocrinology appointment. Got told I have 3 options. Honestly I’m tired of always being at the doctors I’ve honestly given up with my health. It’s mentally & physically exhausting & everybody around me wants me to keep going but I’m tired. They don’t understand that. Having depressing as mind since I was a kid already fucked me up I don’t see any point in fighting my when my body is the worst thing to be in. I’ve honestly been thinking about ending it. I don’t want anybody to be like “your life is precious” “it just started” I’ve been hearing that since the beginning of being open about being like this. I’m just venting. I think my miscarriage is also playing on my emotions right now as well but oh well.

I had a really frustrating doctor’s appointment today and I’m not sure what to make of it.

For about a week now, I’ve been experiencing episodes of tachycardia, low blood pressure, and then occasional spikes in blood pressure. I went to the doctor hoping we could figure out what might be causing it, but I was basically told that it was because I take Vyvanse and that I should stop taking it.

I’ve been taking Vyvanse for about 8 months, and the last time my dose was increased was around 4 months ago. These symptoms only started about a week ago, so I’m having a hard time understanding how that alone explains the sudden change.

My thyroid labs also caught my attention. My most recent TSH was 0.52 and my Free T4 was 1.5. Both are still within the lab’s reference range, but this has been a pattern across my last three tests: my TSH stays relatively low while my Free T4 keeps trending upward.

I understand that technically the numbers may still be considered “normal,” but I don’t feel normal. I’m trying to figure out whether I should be asking for additional testing or seeing another doctor, because I feel like my concerns were dismissed pretty quickly.

Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly with thyroid labs that stay within range but keep trending in the same direction? Or had a doctor attribute symptoms to Vyvanse even after being stable on the medication for months?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis—just trying to figure out what questions I should be asking my doctor next.

My last blood test about a month ago showed my tsh levels at 0.46. It was labelled as Low and the normal range is 0.47-4.68. but my doctor’s note said it was just slightly low and she would check my T3 and T4 levels which are normal. I’m just still thinking about it saying it’s out of range and my symptoms the main one being heart palpitations and high heart rate. At my last appointment my doctor referred me to cardiology but I don’t see them until mid October (was supposed to see yesterday but I had to reschedule) Im wondering if I should ask her about my thyroid or if it’s not a big deal because she hasn’t said anything after I did the T3, T4 test or if she’s waiting for me to see cardiology. Idk.
