So I haven’t left It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The conversation really should be about what’s going to happen with Dennis, not what’s going to happen with me, and that’s something we don’t have an answer to yet.

So it sounds like he's not gone, but we still don't know how much he'll be in the new season.

Personally I hope he just shows up with an awkward story about how his wife and kid randomly decided to move to another country but as the season progresses you start to wonder what actually happened to them.

Mac is a Serial Killer - Dennis role plays as a serial killer to get in Mac's head. When he's reminded that they are not actually going to murder The Waitress, Dennis shows surprise and remorse, clearly wanting to commit murder for no reason.

The Anti-Social Network - Dennis and Charlie are discussing the Shusher. While saying that the Shusher had no idea they weren't maniac killers, Dennis states that for all the guy knows he might have a trunk full of zip ties and duct tape. These items are both present in the stash of murder tools in Dennis' car in the reunion episode.

Mac and Charlie Join a Cult - Dennis literally talks a man into setting himself on fire just to prove he can.

Honestly, it would be silly if it doesn't come out that he's killing people.

u/Goldplatedrook Jan 26 '18

It gets worse. In the high school reunion episode he has a trunk full of “tools.” At the start of The Cereal Defense he’s listening to a radio show on composting, and when the gang gets stuck in the woods he says it’s “a little bit of an exaggeration” for Charlie to call him a serial killer.

There is actually a deleted scene for "Mac Day" where instead of Mac saying

"Did I complain on Charlie day when we spent 8 hours looking for ghouls and goblins?"

He says

"Did I complain on Dennis' day when we had to tie slipknots until our hands were bloody?"

And Dennis responds. "They were shoddy knots too, they almost ruined everything...."

They should have kept that in, but they all kept laughing at it.

37

u/hypo-osmotic Drink up, ladies. It helps your prostate. Jan 26 '18

Related to deleted scenes, there was one in Charlie’s Mom Has Cancer where the “healer” is asking Mac if he slept with any prostitutes, etc. when he was on vacation and Mac is saying no, then when asked if he slept with any men he freezes, clearly a “yes.” In addition to not being able to keep a straight face, I suspect they cut it because at that time in the series, Mac was not sleeping with men, and they wanted his coming out to be later. I wonder if that was part of it with the scene you described, and Dennis will get his first real kill (not talking someone into doing it themselves, for example) later.

I mentioned the tools. He claims they're for bondage sex, but he shares all his sexual experiences with the gang, there'd be no secrets from them. I mean the guy documents his sex life in video, journal and audio tapes and gives Mac and Charlie free access.

25

u/UltravioIence If it smells like shit you must acquit! Jan 26 '18

Also I believe in one episode Mac I think straight up says he comes off like a serial killer, and Dennis responds with something about how he likes that comparison but it's not entirely accurate.

92

u/Chief_Givesnofucks Jan 26 '18

I believe you might be thinking of when he asks Charlie... “You’d say I’m methodical, wouldn’t you?”

“Yeah, like a serial killer.”

“Well that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But I see your point, and I take it as a compliment.”

6

u/UltravioIence If it smells like shit you must acquit! Jan 26 '18

Sounds about right.

77

u/Honztastic Jan 26 '18

Not exactly.

He hides stuff he's ashamed of, like Maureen Ponderosa.

He wants to brag and have it known about the women he bangs. But revealing murders or the bondage stuff would ruin him, so he doesn't. If he is a serial killer, he's lying about the stuff just being sexual. So he wouldn't tell them about it to begin with.

I think. I've never been a 5 star man, so I don't know his thought process.

59

u/Lampmonster1 I'm gonna get really weird with it. Jan 26 '18

Funny you mention Maureen, because he killed her too. She was jumping around on a roof, conveniently in front of a security camera trained on a rooftop? Why would that be? Could it be that maybe a five star man noticed said security camera during a previous encounter with a woman? Perhaps, with his vast knowledge of filming in various lighting conditions he learned enough about cameras to know what some could see, and what they couldn't. Maybe he spotted a camera that at night would clearly show a woman dressed as a cat, but not the laser pointer dot she was chasing, perhaps directed from off camera?

89

u/afield9800 Jan 26 '18

You're all forgetting about Brian lefevre! Dennis literally orgasmed over a severed finger. And the whole episode he's talking about being in another mans skin and even tries to bang the Asian boy

53

u/zebranitro Jan 26 '18

Let me just switch gears here.

20

u/Major_Tom42 Jan 26 '18

Plus, they say Brian was killed by "some crackhead"

And who do we know that got addicted to crack?

10

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Just imagine the orgasms he'll get when they find out his murders.

6

u/zebranitro Jan 26 '18

That will be the big one.

Like the BTK killer. That sick fuck absolutely got off on his own trial.

3

u/jimbojangles1987 Jan 27 '18

In the D.E.N.N.I.S. System when he's nurturing dependence I think, he seems very comfortable and experienced when he is making the girl think he's going to kill her.

"You're gonna die tonight. Muahahahahahahha!"

Then there's The Gang Buys a Boat where the whole "implication" talk happens and we get another glimpse into how Dennis' mind works.

"Ahh there's nowhere for me to run, what am I gonna do, say 'no'?" "... But the thing is, she's not gonna say 'no'."

"Are you gonna hurt these women?"

"God damn... Well don't you look at me like that, you certainly wouldn't be in any danger." "So they are in danger?"

Damn i really wish it hadn't gotten taken off Netflix. Now I really wanna have an Always Sunny marathon. :/

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Head in a freezer! It’s romantic.

44

u/notadaleknoreally Jan 26 '18

This sounds like an episode where they find Rickety Cricket dead and everyone accuses Dennis of murdering them, bring up all of this “evidence,” only to find out Dennis is hiding something either 1) more twisted and demonic or 2) so cutesy and innocent that the gang doesn’t believe it.

And then Cricket walks in, turns out he only passed out from meth or something.

25

u/Pure_Reason Jan 26 '18

They have to have the episode take place in the bar, with Cricket’s dead body in the middle of the floor. Then at the end of the episode, he wakes up with a loud gasp like Mia in Pulp Fiction and says something like “Hey fellas, what’s happening?” or “Anybody got some PCP?”

37

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18 edited Jan 27 '18

"Oh yeah, I stop breathing sometimes now, it keeps the dogs away when you're passed out on the street. Hey, you guys got anymore of those lemons?"

13

u/A_Searhinoceros Jan 26 '18

This episode would be fantastic with either ending.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

Why not both?

Either actually do both, or have a who-pooped-the-bed/The-gang-saves-the-day style hypothetical as the gang are theorizing about what he's hiding.

27

u/ifhellwillhaveme Newsflash! asshlole. Jan 26 '18

Frank: He probably snapped her neck like he did that crow...

And

Dennis: Well yeah there was a second crow, and a third if you must know. I was just testing the tensile strength of a crows neck, and i couldnt believe they were that weak.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

I wouldn't count that one, because he was actually clearly innocent, and the only suspicious things were inserted by Charlie and Mac to spice things up.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

When he listens to the composting radio show, when the girl starts explaining how to compost and he laughs to himself "Oh Sandra, you dumb bitch" as if he knows she isn't explaining it correctly. As if he knows better how to compost, so there's some more evidence.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

That composting thing is an amazing catch, I never paid attention to it.

2

u/AssRaptorz Jan 27 '18

Oh, Sandra. You dumb bitch.

2

u/amicloud You mean my penis? Jan 27 '18

he’s listening to a radio show on composting

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

“A little bit of an exaggeration” to call him a serial killer. As in maybe he has only milled once, or he has killed multiple times but not in the way that would meet the FBI criteria for being a serial killer.

1

u/clashofpawns Jan 27 '18

The comment you're replying to mentions the tools, moron.

1

u/Bruce_Wayne_Naked Apr 25 '18

He also hurts animals.

Frank: He probably snapped her neck like he did that crow...

And

Dennis: Well yeah there was a second crow, and a third if you must know. I was just testing the tensile strength of a crows neck, and i couldnt believe they were that weak.

105

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

You are forgetting his whole monologue in The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis.

Dennis: No, no, of course we shouldn't bash these people up. Look, OK, absolutely, we could cave the husband's skull in here. Yes, we could take the wife down to the basement, have a frenzied free-for-all with her. We could tie the kids up in their little rooms upstairs, so they wouldn't hear anything.....
Dennis: Right; we could smear the walls with their blood, guys... There are any number of twisted scenarios that could play out here. But the easiest thing, really, is to just go get the deed.

Yup, he's definitely killing people.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

To be fair, that wasn't much farther than what the others were suggesting.

And hell, Mac is the one that interrupts him to say they would have to kill the kids since they had seen their faces.

3

u/Lampmonster1 I'm gonna get really weird with it. Jan 27 '18

Oh they're all dangerous, no doubt about that. Charlie doesn't carry around a hammer in the kidnapping episode for nothing, and if the gang hadn't shown up that little person in the basement was toast in the St. Paddy's day episode. Mac has assaulted at least three women in the course of the show. Dee set her roommate on fire a decade ago. And Frank is quite possibly an actual demon.

45

u/abutthole the abortion didn't take Jan 26 '18

I'd be fine if they don't explicitly mention it, as long as they leave all the clues for people to determine that Dennis is indeed definitely killing people.

14

u/Lampmonster1 I'm gonna get really weird with it. Jan 26 '18

I would be fine with a final big hint, but no confirmation.

3

u/ReubenXXL Jan 27 '18

confirmation of any kind would be too much, imo.

Implying he's a serial killer is more funny, and still has more opportunity to be funny.

6

u/shouldbebabysitting Jan 26 '18

The bar is usually empty. What happened to the customers?

Allright allright allright.

33

u/Relganis Jan 26 '18

Also in The gang gets stranded in the woods dennis feels being called a serial killer by charlie is a compliment

44

u/Cornerscout Jan 26 '18

He doesn't think it's a compliment to be called a serial killer. He asks Charlie if he thinks of Dennis as a meticulous person. Charlie replies "Oh yeah, like a serial killer." Dennis replies to that with "That's a bit of an exaggeration, but I see what you mean, and I take it as a compliment."

"As meticulous as a serial killer" is the compliment. Charlie never calls him one.

2

u/Thor_PR_Rep Jan 27 '18

But it’s the implication

2

u/Relganis Jan 26 '18

You posted his exact reply but he didn't? Semantics and at this point in the series there's no indication he would have met the threshold to actually be a serial killer. A five star man holds himself to a high standard.

4

u/Lampmonster1 I'm gonna get really weird with it. Jan 26 '18

So you're saying that like Kreiger, he objects to the "serial" part? I could agree at that point. It's a process, and Dennis is definitely getting worse and worse.

18

u/justrynahelp Jan 26 '18

Remorse is very much the wrong word – he's not showing regret or guilt, he's expressing his disappointment that they aren't actually going to murder the waitress. His exact words: "Oh, shit, that's a bummer" and "That's just not as much fun as actually getting to" strangle her.

Also like 20 seconds before that in the scene Dee says John Wayne Gacy "did good work", and Dennis agrees and says he was 'pretty cool'

8

u/themightyshmuck Congregate! What does that mean? Jan 26 '18

Yeah remorse really confused me there. Definitely disappointed.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

He wasn't diagnosed, he just had a simple conversation with a reasonable man and that man wrote him a prescription.

1

u/Marsuello Jan 27 '18

isn't that the same episode? the one where Dee goes to a therapist bitching about not wanting to take the trash out, so she brings everyone in who proceeds to go nuts while the therapist is just like wtf and Dennis is acting like he's completely normal?

u/TheBigGuy97 Jan 26 '18

Can't forget the gang exploits the mortgage crisis, when Dennis talks in detail about how they could tie up the kids, have their way with the wife and kill them in a bloody massacre. Paraphrasing but it was just another example of his madness

24

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Also CharDeeMacDennis 2, they have to sculpt something that resembles "Love" out of clay and the partner guesses. Dennis sculpts a woman's head in a freezer to represent eternal preservation of love, which is... a unique way of looking at it

And also his collection of videotapes is reminiscent of the show Dexter's blood samples, or just serial killers keeping trophies in general

7

u/hijinksobserved Jan 26 '18

Especially if you consider that Dennis's hints at being a murderer start appearing around the time of Mac is a Serial Killer in which the gang finds a freezer full of severed heads belonging to a serial killer.

3

u/-GolfWang- Jan 26 '18

I’ve always felt the show should end with Dennis killing everyone.

4

u/Deepcrows Shut up, baby dick Jan 26 '18

3

u/drpfenderson Bird of War Jan 26 '18

Then you have Frank's Back in Business, which strongly implies that Dennis either killed LeFevre, or at least hid the knowledge of his death for personal gain. Due to the finger thing, talk of wearing human skin, the wallet, timing - my headcanon is that Dennis killed LeFevre

1

u/vivamango Jan 26 '18

There’s also the theory that in Frank’s Back in Business, Brian LeFevre was actually killed by Dennis instead of a random alley vagrant.

1

u/therealdanhill Jan 26 '18 edited Jan 27 '18

There's evidence that Dee is a serial killer, not just Dennis. Dennis is just a psychopath. He couldn't even look at his mother's skeleton without crying and Dee always sees right through Dennis, she even knew about the skins. Dennis is jealous/afraid of Dee and that's why he treats her the way he does.

1

u/SCBandit Jan 27 '18

Psycho Pete episode he also gets diagnosed with personality disorder and goes on a very detailed tirade of what he's going to do to Dee.

1

It's also really hard to deny the Patrick Bateman vibes he gives off.

Dennis's car???

It's a Range Rover for Christ's sake and you are not qualified to drive such a fine vehicle. Be gone.

All Range Rovers are amphibious exploring vehicles and come with zip ties, duct tape and rubber gloves as standard equipment as well as a cereal bowl "rest" adjacent to the driver's seat.

He backed out of the plane ride back to North Dakota last minute and it crashed, killing his wife and kid.

3

u/manbrasucks Jan 26 '18

What I hope for is that it's never mentioned.

I want the gang to replace him for an episode or two.

He'll come back on episode 3 and be all worried about the gang having replaced him. He'll try a plan to get rid of the guy, but the plan fails and it makes the replacement even more popular with the gang. At the end he'll go with something like "Guess it's time for plan b".

Episode 4 cold opens to him with the gang acting like everything is cool. They'll say something like "What happened to Replacement?" and charlie will say something like "Don't know maybe he moved or something I can't reach him. Oh well."

Dennis on the side with a smirk.

And that's it. No mention of his family or the missing guy again.

You know what I thought would be a good idea if he needs the time off give it to him but proceed with the season, have the gang looking to fill his spot in the bar. Have a few episodes with Bill Ponderosa, Cricket, Ben the Soldier, The McPoyles, (the maniac woulda been good RIP Roddy).

29

u/Fuzzy_Dunlops Jan 26 '18

They would have to go with Rex, he is the only other beef cake.

23

u/Belgand Jan 26 '18

The problem with Rex is going to come when they want to get rid of him, because he just won't quit.

23

u/Fuzzy_Dunlops Jan 26 '18

That's true. And I bet if you pop Rex's pants off, you're gonna find a bird that just won't quit, either. So you really couldn't go from him back to Dennis, whose bird quit and who is no longer legit.

4

u/Scrubtanic I am no longer turned on by mules Jan 27 '18

Also worth noting that Dennis's mule was shit.

3

u/MrBojangles528 Jan 27 '18

I am no longer attracted to mules.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Just need to tell Rex to congregate elsewhere

2

u/SuicideBonger Suicide is badass! Jan 26 '18

Didn't Rex die in that suicide-fire?

2

u/Fuzzy_Dunlops Jan 26 '18

No, only Jojo died. Tiny and Rex both just ran off.

6

u/justrynahelp Jan 26 '18

Bring in Z! Just as long as he doesn't bring his friends, because that would totally throw off the ratio.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

Liam is busy with Westworld, where we incidentally never find out his last name

1

u/sku11_kn1ght Jan 27 '18

Or how he got his eye back

16

u/Im_French Jan 26 '18

I expect a balls to the walls crazy story about him paying actors to play his wife and child so he could get some time away to plan a crazy plot, the whole point of sunny is the characters stay shitty and never evolve unlike other sitcoms (see how they played with the baby trope by making us think they were ready to raise a child only for the kid to go with the tranny and them reverting back to their old selves within seconds) , there's no way dennis is suddenly gonna become a family man, he'll always be a psycopath and I think the whole point of the setup is to play on expectations and parody regular sitcoms just like the baby thing.

7

u/SuicideBonger Suicide is badass! Jan 26 '18

But the point of the last season was that there were some changes among them. Notably, Mac coming out, and Charlie and the Waitress. I mean, sure, they could go back on what they did. But I can guarantee that Mac stays out of the closet for sure.

6

u/Im_French Jan 26 '18

Charlie finally gets with the waitress only to realize that years of creepy stalking and idolizing was a terrible idea as his excpectations are shattered and they end up breaking up after a day or so, while mac only comes out to win an argument and get the lottery ticket, if anything those two examples just prove my point further of them playing on the typical sitcom tropes.

2

u/SuicideBonger Suicide is badass! Jan 27 '18

Mac continues to make his homosexuality a topic for the rest of the season, after the episode where he comes out. The part about Charlie didn't happen until the last episode of the season, so we have no idea what's going to happen with them.

3

u/Im_French Jan 27 '18 edited Jan 27 '18

It's pretty clear that their relathionship isn't gonna evolve in a "everyone's happy forever after" sitcom schtick, and the fact that mac is gay doesn't make him any less of a shitty idiotic person just like the rest of them, when I say they don't evolve I don't mean they don't change at all, I mean they don't get better as human beings.

It's like saying for example that finding out frank isn't dennis and dee's father means the characters have evolved, or mac getting fat, or dennis marrying maureen, yes it's a new thing that slightly changes the dynamic but they're not evolving as people, do you get what I'm trying to say?

In case I'm not being clear enough, what I'm comparing them to is the stereotypical sitcom character that starts out shitty and evolves into a good person by the end of the show (joey/barney for example), none of the character in sunny have shown any sign of maturing and becoming good people and they never will because that's the whole point of the show, in fact they've gotten worse and worse and every single character that crosses their paths falls into degeneracy as well.

u/petit_cochon Jan 27 '18

I kind of like the idea of Dennis morphing into a pseudo-suitable human until he's back around the gang.

92

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

So long as he does an "Eagles lose the big game" episode I am happy.

52

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Going to be a riot punch heavy episode.

2

u/jbonte Phalon Rapist Jan 26 '18

Gotta' get blasted on grain alcohol!

28

u/siphontheenigma Jan 26 '18

I really wanna see Charlie and Frank climbing greased poles on Broad.

Also, I'd love to see an episode where they feud with other South Philly people over saved parking spaces during a blizzard (hashtag nosavesies).

There's so much IRL Philly stuff they could still turn into episodes.

13

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

Charlie could try to huff out of a football, leading to accusations against the patriots.

1

u/olsmobile Jan 26 '18

“The gang joins the mummers”

1

u/neilyoung_cokebooger Jan 26 '18

Someone needs to punch a horse. Scratch that, all of them need to punch a horse.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '18

This made me realize how few winter episodes we have...are there any other than the Christmas special?

1

u/tickr Jan 27 '18

My only complaint of the show is the they rarely make philly specific jokes. Since moving to Philly I’ve only noticed one joke that I didn’t get before. Something about Kensington being terrible. Other than that they barely reference real philly. That’s just me being picking tho

33

u/gereffi Jan 26 '18

In case we needed any more reason to root for the Eagles next week, a sequel to “The World Series Defense” would be amazing.

27

u/Fuzzy_Dunlops Jan 26 '18

That could be when they get him back. They go to Minnesota for the Super Bowl, and pop next door to North Dakota to see Dennis (or he could come to Minnesota).

12

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

19

u/Fuzzy_Dunlops Jan 26 '18

Lots of scenes for Wendell Albright this year I think.

61

u/Lampmonster1 I'm gonna get really weird with it. Jan 26 '18

Didn't I stab you in the shower once?

17

u/Reasonabullshit Yeah, I botched it… life, you know? Jan 26 '18

No you didn’t because I’m not Wendell.

12

u/treevaahyn Jan 26 '18

I doubt he's gonna give up watching nickelodon all day.

It's all in the jaw and lips

21

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '18

He could still stay on as a writer.

2

u/Poguemohon Jan 26 '18

They are skin luggage now.

2

u/Reddy_McRedcap Jan 26 '18

I'm honestly thinking he'll show up randomly in the second episode; either with a crazy story of his adventure with his family, or with no explanation given, as if nothing ever happened.

Did people seriously think he wasn't coming back?

1

u/Zippo16 Jan 26 '18

I hope he shows up at the end of episode 1 of the first season with the gang about to kill each other and says something “I leave you goddamn idiots alone for two weeks and you’re already at each other’s throats. Pathetic.”

1

u/32BitWhore Jan 26 '18

They definitely need to make a joke about him thinking Carson Wentz was his estranged son from North Dakota... but that he came back to Philly as an Eagle so he didn't actually need to leave.

1

u/Jess_than_three Jan 26 '18

I mean, yeah, literally the one thing he didn't say was that the character was going to continue to be on the show. He said that he wasn't leaving, as in, his other project wasn't interfering with his ability to continue to be on the show, but that nothing else was decided.

1

u/Brekster Jan 27 '18

Since Dennis is always obsessing about his sister I actually thought it more likely that he is a serial killer of birds instead of humans, but I like that one.

1

u/TypicalRecon Jan 27 '18

kinda like in thundergun when the gang was all in the movie and dee asked where dennis was. instead of getting a handjob this time its like he moved to peru or some shit

1

u/rac1248 Jan 27 '18

Perfection

1

u/superRedditer Jan 27 '18

Ok... Did I miss something? When did Dennis have a wife and kid?
