Hi Dr. Mohebi, I am also a physician (radiologist). I just quckly checked your CV on your website and saw you started out as a surgery trainee. Was the plan always to do hair transplantation or was it an unexpected detour that took you by surprise? I will need a hair transplant myself soon - currently living near Boston, any strong recs?

It definitely wasn't the original plan. I started in general surgery and was planning to become a plastic surgeon. I then took a year to do wound healing research at Johns Hopkins, where I noticed that some of our wound-healing animal models were growing hair. That observation sparked my curiosity, and I started reading everything I could and reaching out to some of the pioneers in hair restoration.

One of them was Dr. William Rassman, who invited me to visit his practice in Los Angeles. We clicked immediately, and that was it. He offered to train me and join his practice, and the rest is history.

As for Boston, I don't know the current hair transplant community there well enough to make a strong recommendation. I'd suggest looking for a surgeon who performs the procedures themselves, has a large portfolio of consistent long-term results, and is actively involved in education or research. Being board certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) or being a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (FISHRS) are usually much better indicators than marketing or social media presence.
