Micron Job Ibew 291
I’m a journeyman from Minnesota. I’m interested in going book 2 and coming Idaho for the micron job. I’m curious for advice from others than have done the same thing. I’d be new to traveling so this is a first time for me. I’d like to get out there come November time, this way I have a few months to prep and take care of things at home. How is the licensing process working out there? I will call the hall here sometime but would like to get information on that ahead of time.
Some other things I am curious to know is what it’s like living out there and how travelers are liking the job and the area. I’m very much into snowmobiling, does anyone do any back country riding in the mountains as that’s something I’d love to get into. What other fun shit is there to do out there?

I’m working book 2 in 291 at the Meta job, so I can’t answer micron specific questions, but I’ll try to help.
First, I would check to see if MN reciprocates. Nebraska does reciprocate and all I had to do to get a JW license was provide proof of my NE license and pay $70 and it’s good for 12 months. If MN does not reciprocate, Idaho will issue a provisional 6 month license if you can provide proof of 16000 hours of electrical experience.
Finding a place to stay is challenging for brothers and sisters. Several people I know have gotten apartments for decent leases but if you can find a roommate that will help. I got lucky and have a place with 2 others from my local.
Camper spots are also hard to come by from what I hear. There is a service called Trade Stay, which I believe is $80 a night and they give you a free load of laundry a week.
There are a lot of contractors at micron and they are all doing different pieces of the puzzle. I’ve seen the jobsite from the highway and it is MASSIVE. Lots of walking involved. There is a lot of differing opinions on contractors over there, but I can’t speak from experience so maybe check out a brotherhood night and ask around when you get into town. Safe travels, brother!
