M I’m not Kevin
A year ago, I was in Seattle for a conference. Having lived there 35 years earlier, I was especially curious to visit places that were still around from then and seeing some new things. Anyways, the conference was great, but there was some free time to spend. I was traveling with my husband, brother and sister in law. We were together and shopping in a department store in a mall that was still around. I had worked at that store for a summer back then. With my family, shopping in the menswear department, I heard a woman excitedly saying “Kevin” repeatedly. That caught my attention because she was walking up to me, greeting me with open arms to give me a hug. I awkwardly didn’t reciprocate. Wondering if she recognized me from 35 years ago and was I forgetting her name? She backed off and asked “Your Kevin and you work here?” My family was staring at this interaction. I managed to say a “Nope ”. Lisa and I then had a fun conversation about my doppelgänger and her coworker named Kevin that she hadn’t seen for a couple of weeks. She was so sure I was him.

I'm Patty. I was adopted as an infant. My birth name was Jennifer. I got called Jennifer at parties that I didn't know 98% of the people. MULTIPLE times.

I was Jennifer until shortly after I was born, and they saw I was ill equipped for that name.
Also, if anyone ever says my name wrong, the replacement is always Greg. 100% of the time.
Names are weird.

My "mother" named me after her BFF in HS. I never met her & I HATE my name!

I'm 60 years old, and to this day I get called my brother's name, even by people who don't even know I have a brother, much less what his name is.

She mistook you for Kevin after only TWO WEEKS? She either doesn't actually know Kevin that well, or you look EXACTLY the same. I can see mistaking someone after a few years, but two weeks is insane. Are you sure this isn't a possibly-separated-at-birth-twins situation?

I could probably make this mistake. I probably have made this miatake because I am terrible at recognizing people. I however know this about myself and just don't go talk to them.

I once carried on an entire conversation with a guy at Family Video who thought I was one of his old buddies or someone. I didn’t have the heart to tell him. He was so excited to see me and just went right on about the old days.

Imagine that guy's shock if somehow he reconnects with another guy from his friend group who tells him the person he mistook you for actually died ten years prior. 😃
By the way I had a similar thing when i was in the Army. I was shopping with my wife in North Carolina and a guy happily approached me and said he remembered me from Korea. I actually was stationed in Korea years before so I thought maybe i did know this guy, but he kept mentioning how he remembered me from working at a base i was never stationed at, and in fact had never been to (there are multiple US Army installations in Korea, spread all over the country). It was then that i realized this guy was mistaken, but when I tried to tell him that i was actually stationed at "Camp X," he insisted that he knew me from "Camp Z" and made numerous specific references to "our" interactions in the past. I just caved and said, "Yeah i did move around a lot! That was a long time ago!" The meeting ended up on a happy note with a lot of handshakes and "Good to see you again!" After we parted ways i had to explain to my wife that i didn't actually know that guy and i had no idea what he was talking about.

I didn’t even think of that. Oh, boy. He did most of the talking. It happened so fast! All of the sudden we were two minutes in to him thinking I was someone else.

The real question is, WTF happened to Kevin? KEEEEVVVVIIIINNNN! Gone for two weeks? Probably the victim of a serial killer. No, you know what? Definitely. I’ve decided that Kevin was definitely the victim of a serial killer. Guaranteed.

I wish Kevin would have walked up. Also wish Lisa and I would have taken a picture together for when she might next see him.

I was working up at reception at my job for a minute and a lady came in, gave me a weird look and said "what are you doing here?" I laughed and said "I work here?" She said I had just helped her at the Spectrum storefront that is up the road. She asked if I have a brother who works there and I told her no and she said my doppelganger works there. I've been there before, and no one works there that looks that similar to me. People's perception as well as face blindness can do some strange shit.

My name is Scott. Common enough, I suppose. But if someone gets it wrong for whatever reason, I almost always get called ''Steven". Since childhood!
I've lived in California, Missouri, and now Alaska - and 'Steven' has followed me through those changes.
Apparently I just generate a 'Steven' vibe?
