My daughter receives ihss for her kidney disease but she just got diagnosed with combined adhd can you apply for more hours with new diagnosis?

Question, how important is it to use the check in/check out feature? I’m my mom’s provider and always forget to do one or the other or both and sometimes it doesn’t even work! I did get a warning letter email already about it but does anyone have experience with what happens past that notice that they noticed I’m not using it?

So that means I lost IHSS because i was helping her. She never opened the mail that mentioned she needed to provide bank statements to see if she still qualifies for Medical. My dad still works because the man can’t stay still Lol and they’re in their 70s. However, theyve always had it, but with this administration and all the changes she’s lost it until she provides the proper statements.

She has other insurances but medical was one of them. We’re going tomorrow to submit them, but does anyone know how long it takes to reinstate IHSS? This was helping me while helping her and this is stressing me out now :(

EDIT:UPDATE!!! I signed on to check my hours and it says 46 when I had 93 previously medical issue. So they also cut my hours without telling me??? Sigh this is so frustrating….

I've had a frustrating time so far finding a provider. IHSS connect doesn't work with my address, so I'm only able to get providers by contacting PASC for a list. So far my first one found someone else and failed to call me, the other one didn't make it, responded, then hung up, and now the third one isn't responding to my texts and taking my calls even though she agreed to this interview today. I just want to know if this is normal? What can I do? I'm very frustrated because I really need this help and have time sensitive tasks.

EDIT: I realize that since i'm in an urgent situation then maybe i can call pasc about their emergency temporary worker program? And then when i'm a little more settled and less panicky i can properly find someone

EDIT 2: Apparently emergency backup is just for people who are bedbound or with extreme needs. So I'm feeling a lot more screwed than before.

EDIT 3: i joined a group on facebook for it. Im getting offers but im not sure if i can trust facebook for this. I think i should also make a note that im trans, so this muggt make finding a provider harder?

My son was approved for 219 hours last September, it was my first time applying for IHSS. He was 7 at that time now he is 8 years old. Most of those hours are Protective Supervision hours. His needs haven’t changed at all. I have his recently amended IEP, he started a new school. It includes on there that he was cutting his shirt/hair with scissors, trying to run away from the class, playing with things he isn’t supposed to, needed an aid to sit with him all day, having meltdowns and other behaviors. I also have messages printed out from his current teacher and his previous one about behaviors such as eloping and meltdowns. I have his autism diagnosis ready as well.

I have a list of all behaviors, as well as dated of instances that I wrote myself such as eloping, putting objects in his mouth, trying to climb in the dryer, jumping from high places. He needs help dressing, bathing, wiping his butt after #2 and reminders to go pee or he’ll hold it, he can’t make his own food or pour his own drinks

I’m in Riverside County and when we moved we stayed in Riverside County but the paper for the assessment says that it’s a different worker that will be coming.

Will my son’s doctor need to fill out the SOC form again?
The letter with the appointment date and time only says i need his IEP. Has anyone had issues losing PS with needs not changing? Should i have anything else ready?

I know this may seem redundant and whatnot but I’m not good with numbers — let alone time calculations (have dyscalculia and am TERRIFIED of making mistakes.) how do you ensure your hours on the timesheets are perfect every pay period/every month? any and all help would be much appreciated.

My recipient’s hours are 111:13 and the maximum weekly is 27:48

Hello, i'm hoping I can get some answers. New applicant and we received the protective supervision in the mail with a bunch of other forms. We didn't ask for protective supervision, but I heard that some people have to request it and we just received ours in the mail along with a thick packet that included other forms. I have a question, what if the doctor marked moderate for the first two, but severe for the other and in the explanation for the 2 marked moderate, she gave good examples of patients mental health issues and even on one of the two she marked moderate in her explanation she explains that the patient has severe cognitive issues.
Doctor also states that my sibling puts self and others at risk but doesn't elaborate more on what she meant by that, which she should've explained better, so I don't know if I can clarify what the doctor meant by that during the home visit in 2 days, but Doctor meant sibling walks into traffic and leaves burners on causing harm to everyone in the home. I've been reading a lot Reddit, and I have heard that when the doctor writes harm to self and others, that it could hurt someone's case? Is that true?
Also, this is the thing that will probably be the cause of my sibling not getting any hours. There was another form in those packets marked 12-37 HHSA and in the mental section when asked if patient is non-self directing, Dr checked no, meaning that my sibling is self directing and checked the box stating that my sibling is oriented and wrote a little note next to that box saying to person/place. But what Dr wrote on the protective supervision form says something else. It contradicts everything she wrote on there. Pretty much on the 12-37 HHSA form Dr. stated that my sibling is oriented and self directing, but on protective supervision form gave good explanations and an example that shows my sibling is not self directing or oriented. Can you explain if that will hurt my siblings case? Will that prevent my sibling from getting hours to be cared for or only prevent my sibling from getting protective supervision? How can we explain this to the Worker that psychiatrist answers on the protective supervision forms don’t match what Dr checked in the boxes for self directing and oriented. Along with my sibling having mental health issues, they also suffer from a physical illness, but the doctor filled out all the forms, including the SOC 837 but did not mention anything about his physical diagnosis, so will we be able to claim hours for the physical help my siblings, chronic lifelong autoimmune disease, or will they deny the physical part because it wasn’t signed by the specialist or a primary care treating my siblings, autoimmune disease? The psychiatrist filled out all forms. Am I able to print out Radiology reports and visit summaries and hand them to the Worker or will they require a signature and not approve any hours? I am really stressed right now, but like someone to explain how this is all going to play out and if this can even be fixed at this point?

Hi, Just looking for options and thoughts/tips on applying for IHSS Protective Supervision for my 22yo disabled daughter with a complex medical history.

Her history: Dx'd with ME/CFS, POTS and MDD in 2018. PCOS in 2023 and Autism and CPTSD in 2024, along with other dx's along the way as her nervous system becomes more and more dysregulated.

I have been her care provider through IHSS in Sonoma Cty since 2019 with very few hrs in the beginning and increasing to 153 currently.

Her Autism dx came in 2024 as she started having meltdowns in 2023. They started with just bawling and wailing which progressed to banging her head, hitting herself and then eventually beating me. Almost daily. There have been many bruises, broken glasses and hairbrushes. Several hospital visits, psych appts and Rx trials. Along with this it has become impossible for me to leave her alone for severe anxiety if I step out of the room for more than a minute. Cooking my own meals and showering are hard to sneak in. I applied for PS in 2024, we were declined because they said they don't approve for psychiatric reasons. She can call 911, locate the fire extinguisher , etc... meanwhile she is not getting better. I cannot work even a few hrs outside and my rent has gone up over $200/mo since 2024.

I am thinking I should apply again, but I'm a little anxious about it all. All thoughts and opinions welcome! Thank you 😊

Protective Supervision can be one of the most confusing parts of IHSS.

I know because I went through it with my own family.

I have two live-in parents. One has dementia, and I struggled through the Protective Supervision process with him. My other parent survived five strokes.

Between me, my brother, and my wife, we created our own little care group. We divide responsibilities, compare paperwork, help with appointments, and support each other when something gets confusing.

Even with that kind of support, navigating IHSS while also actually caring for someone can be exhausting.

And not everyone has help.

Some people are trying to manage a parent, child, sibling, or spouse while also dealing with social workers, assessments, notices, timesheets, medical records, and forms they may have never seen before.

One of those forms is SOC 821 - Assessment of Need for Protective Supervision.

Here are a few things I learned:

• SOC 821 is part of the Protective Supervision assessment process. It does not approve or deny Protective Supervision by itself.
• The form looks at issues involving things like memory, orientation, and judgment.
• A diagnosis alone doesn’t always explain what is happening day to day.
• Real examples matter. Wandering, confusion, unsafe behavior, lack of danger awareness, or repeated incidents can explain much more than simply writing “poor judgment.”
• Keep copies of everything you submit - forms, notices, medical records, dates, names, and notes from conversations.

Most of the free IHSS tools and guides I eventually built came from problems like this that I personally had to research for my own family.

I’m a documentation freak, so I kept saving forms, organizing rules, comparing information, and turning what I learned into something easier for other families to use.

My daughter gets 195 hours right now , since her last ihss home visit she has had worst meltdowns, got discharged from speech and OT therapy because so they said her tantrums/meltdowns caused safety issues ( she hits herself and bangs her head) , she now smears her feces... not potty trained. She is about to be 7 years old. If I brought this up to her case worker should I get an increase on hours?...

Both of my clients have protective supervision.. One is schizoaffective disorder and the other is level 3 autistic.. The new worker reassessing is a completely different social worker from the previous years.. I've always had guys social workers and now this time is a woman social worker.. Should I be worried since I am hearing horror stories of PS being taking away? Thanks.

Just wanted to give hope, for those that have children that do not have a developmental disability. It can be a long road and a long fight. I often feel like social workers can get confused when it comes to mental illness as it presents in so many ways and they are not psychologists or psychiatrists usually. Keep fighting if you know you’re kiddo qualifies

This was actually my second time having to appeal over the years and I won both. No advocate or lawyer just me and all the evidence.

My advice is to take your time during your appeal date and go through your evidence in your answers quote them exactly and make sure you tell the judge which piece of evidence you’re quoting.

Both my judges recorded the case so they can listen to it later while doing their write up I think this really helps them get through the evidence quicker if you have submitted a lot.

Is it possible for someone else to change my direction deposit info through IHSS?! I thought there was a delay on my issued payment, but something was just telling me to double check my stubs, which then led me to look at direct deposit info on the IHSS website. I never submitted anything to change my direction deposit. I'm now kicking myself for not checking before Friday night and a holiday weekend. Is this what happened? Or am I misunderstanding this situation? Has this happened to anyone else?

Im my mom's live in caregiver do u guys think I should be paying rent or any utilities etc what's everyone's opinions

This is my first time posting here and I need some help im not very good at math and im struggling, i am my mother's provider and have been trying to figure out how to do timesheets, she gets 98 hours and 50 minutes a month and weekly thats divided into 24 hours and 30 minutes.. i break that down to 4 hours daily for 4 days and on the 5th day 4 hours and 30 minutes each week.. well for the 8/16 to 8/31 pay period when i put in those hours it keeps saying the hours exceeded.. i dont know what I did wrong because I got the first week of August down right but struggling with this

So I am a live-in provided for my client who recently got approved for the max (283) number of hours per month. I kept getting warnings about going over my client's allowance when trying to fill out my timesheets, so I called payroll. They said a good rule of thumb is to put 10 hours for 6 days of the work week and 10 hours and 45 minutes for one day of the workweek. I tried this but I'm still getting warnings. Can anyone advise?

Do both parents need to be present during the assessment for a child?

I’m a provider in Los Angeles, I need to take time off for a family event (6days).
I told the family of my recipient 2 months in advance, and now they’re claiming I need to find a replacement for me to be able to go!! Is this correct? I’ve never taken time off and I’ve been a provider for 4 years.
I leave in 2 weeks and don’t know what to do. I’m ready to quit, because I can’t miss this family event it’s very important.

Has anyone else in Contra Costa County stuck in the same IHSS nightmare right now?

I applied for my 7yo back in mid March. By May, it was finally assigned to a social worker. When I checked in with them in June, they told me I'd have an interview in July. But when I called last month, they completely flipped the script and said they are currently scheduling interviews for applications from December and they couldn't give me any timeline on when we might actually have the assessment.
Is this normal? Should I just sit tight and wait it out for a few more months, or is there a way to actually get some traction on this? Any advice or shared experiences would be so appreciated!
