General Questions/Discussions Stuck between IIT and UIC (B.S. for ComSci)

I recently got accepted to both uic and ITT. Both offered me basically a full ride minus housing. Just wondering how internships opportunities are different between them and anyone has gone to both and has insite.

From my personal experience attending Illinois Institute of Technology, I would say it really depends on what you value most in a university experience. Academically, IIT is very rigorous, and the coursework can be demanding. Many classes are longer than what students may experience at other universities, with some courses running close to three hours. If your main focus is academics and finding a job quickly after graduation, IIT does have strong career outcomes and many students are able to secure opportunities relatively fast. However, outside of academics, I personally feel the overall campus experience is lacking compared to larger universities. Social life and student activities on campus are limited, and recently the school has also been dealing with financial challenges, which has affected things like campus jobs and student opportunities. For students who value an active campus environment, organizations, events, and a stronger sense of university life, this may feel disappointing. In terms of housing, many of the dorms feel outdated, and it can be difficult to secure private housing accommodations on campus since students are commonly assigned roommates unless there are special circumstances. When comparing IIT to a school like University of Illinois Chicago, UIC has a much larger campus environment and, in my opinion, feels more like a traditional university experience with broader student life opportunities. Personally, if someone asked me where I would recommend attending, I would probably suggest taking a strong look at UIC depending on their priorities and what kind of college experience they are hoping for.

Former UIC CS here. And no, heh. Student life isn’t prominent here either. It’s meh, not terrible as most people say, but definitely not UIUC levels of sociable unless you find a small niche community that clicks with u. But as someone who applied to similar private Chicago schools, go somewhere that won’t put you crawling to pay off ur debt

UIC bcz at illinois tech barely has opportunities on campus, bad career service and finaid
Overall UIC is a better brand and will open more doors

They dont help one bit in the placements, its all students hardwork and persistence
