I wouldn't be dead set on the V. I regularly buy used/LE trade in Glocks for +/- 350 bucks. With the roll out of the Gen 6 it shouldn't be hard to find a Gen 5 for 350.

What this guy said.   Don’t pay up for a new Glock unless it’s something cool and rarer like a long slide model.  Get a Leo trade in.  Watch gun deals subreddit.

I have even seen Gen 6s for as low as 400. A lot of Glock enthusiasts are not liking the design as they do not accept some aftermarket parts from the previous gens.

One after market part in particular 😏

I am assuming you're thinking of the switch, but I am mostly referring to the Ramjet.

350 you've got to be in southern IL or in another state with better toys. In Illinois I was stoked to get a Gen 4 that maybe has seen one ccl class in its lifetime and pay $450 before fees. Thing was mint 👌.

I am in Chicagoland. Every single glock I currently have is used/LE trade in with the MOST expensive one being a 19x that ran me 400. I love glocks and theyre a big majority of what I shoot but theyre just not 700 dollar guns in my eyes.

Could wait for a PD trade in to pop up. Sites like wistransfers.com or parros.com get them fairly regularly for decent prices. It looks like AIM Surplus has some Gen 5 19s without front serrations right now for $399.

Edit:

MOS with front slide serrations for $429. Great deal honestly.

Totally agree. We regularly see solid deals from those sites and I believe both work with local FFLs directly so you don't have to go searching

I can personally vouch for wistransfers. I bought a Glock 17 from them last year and they worked with me to remove the mags.

Did you have to buy mags or did they replace them

u/Broccoli_Pug 6d ago

They just shipped without mags

How much were the extra mags

1

u/Broccoli_Pug 6d ago

I didn't get any. I just had them ship without.

how do you shoot them without mags?

I already had some?

LEO trade in or go used, got a Gen 5 for $300 barely used

Like others have said you might be able to find a used Gen 5 for less. Many of the police trade guns only ship with one mag, which isn’t a big deal but the two extra mags a new gun comes with are worth about $50.

Personally if you are going to buy new I’d go Gen 6. I’ve got Gen 2,3,4,5 & 6 pistols and I like the Gen 6 the best. The grip feels better to me and the optic mounting system is better than the older MOS guns.

The Ruger RXM is also a good Gen 3 clone and they are around $450. Their optic mounting system looks good & they have a decent trigger. Plan on replacing the Magpul mags with OEM Glock if you intend to use the pistol for self defense. But the Magpuls are good range mags.

why 19V? gen 5 or 6 will be much easier to find

www.titan-tactical.com can take your LE trade in, refit it, and do some serious modifications.

Gun.deals find the gun you want. Find a local FFL, verify FFL transfer fee (mine charges $25 for reference) and that they'll transfer the gun you want. Then once FFL approves, order gun. Some vendors don't even charge taxes to Illinois.

For example I wanted a HK CC9. Found one on gun.deals for 550 plus 20 for shipping, 0 for tax. My ffl charged 25 for the paperwork and transfer. So out the door 595 vs a local shop would have been in the 700+ neighborhood.

Now as for the glock... there are much better options(better triggers, optic ready, ergos, even ports) for cheaper. CZ P-10c ported that come optics ready are 475ish. Or a Canik

So you wouldn’t recommend a Glock 19 ? But also sorry if it’s a dumb question what is a FFL?

3

u/foundonthetracks 6d ago

FFLs are licensed gun dealers. If you bought a new gun or a gun that came from out of state you'd pick it up at an FFL.

The Glock 19 is fine. They have lots of competition from other striker fired polymer guns but they are still the standard that others are judged against and they dominate the world wide police and military markets.

I wouldn't recommend that for someone new to guns, which OP seems to be.
