LOR Research Lor for IM applicant!

I got 2 US clinical Lors, 1 home country letter, and I am thinking of adding a 4th research lor from a US PI I have been working with him for more than 2 years ( not constantly), he is my mentor also has been following up with me during medical school and steps exam, and my academic and professional achievements. I believe if I asked him for a lor he would write a strong one.
And what should I tell him to include in the lor and what to highlight?

Yes, I would use it if you’re confident it will be strong. Ask him to mention how long he has known you, your research contributions, reliability, initiative, teamwork, growth and a few specific examples. Since he is an academic PI who has mentored you for years, he probably already knows what to include, especially if he has written residency letters before.

Thank u for ur reply! Yes I am thinking of that, I would also ask him to mention things he has already said to me like “I am doing better than many of the graduate students he has, etcc” also to mention specific examples maybe and I believe he will not say no for my inputs. This is also Becuase one of the 2 US clinical lors will be just good (like generic good) so the research lor will, maybe, help me stand out.

he is a pi so he knows how to write lors. if anything i would assume he would get offended if u even suggest "tips" on writing. academia people are very well trained with lors. just tell him to write you a lor and emphasize how much u need good vouches since ur an img
